Lillie Jean Grant was born in Omaha, Tx to the parents of Columbus and Lillie Mae Grant. She was the 6th of 7 children born to Columbus and Lillie Mae. She attended Carver Elam and High School in Omaha.
Lillie excelled in Basketball in high school and was well known for her exceptional skills. After high school she continued her education at Texas College in Tyler, TX. She was determined to make something of her life. Upon graduating from Texas College, she earned her B.S In Elementary Education In later years she continued her education and received her Master's (M.A) In Education. After College she worked for a short time at Texas Instruments in Richardson. She soon learned that teaching was her divine calling.
Lillie loved children and accepted a job in the Dallas Independent School District as a 4th grade Math Teacher at Lakewood Elem. School, she loved teaching Math, after many years at Lakewood she decided to transfer closer to her home. She accepted a 4th grade assignment at T.G Terry Elementary after 29 yrs, in educating children she decided to retire. Lillie knew that God had called her to teach children and enjoyed every minute.
Lillie enjoyed studying God's word and was active in Church until her health began to fail. At one time she was a member at Newborn Baptist Church where she served faithfully. When she couldn't drive anyone, she joined Kirkwood Temple CME Church, around the corner from her home.
She leaves to cherish her memories her oldest sister- Mary Louise Henderson in San Antonio, TX and her children, her youngest sister here in Dallas Sybilene(Fred) Harrison all her brothers are deceased: Columbus, Leon, Marshall and William. She has a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law in Texarkana, TX.
