Obituary

Louis Cage Atkins, Jr. was born on June 15, 1931 to the late Louis Atkins, Sr. and Delsi Atkins in Gloster, Louisiana. He was one of twelve children born to their union. On Monday, October 23, 2017, Louis passed away and joined his spouse, two children and parents in a heavenly home. He was widely known as a loving family man, hard worker and loyal friend.
At an early age, Louis accepted salvation and received baptism at Friendship Baptist Church in Bolter City. He received his formal education at Carrie Martin High School in Plain Dealing, Louisiana.

As an adult Louis moved to Dallas, TX in the early 1950's. Not long after Louis met the love of his life, Lorine Fitzgerald and the two were married on April 4, 1954. In this union, the couple lovingly raised their three children together. Daughter, Jo Ann Hodge (deceased) and two sons, Foncell Fitzgerald and Isaac Fitzgerald, Jr. (deceased). Their union of 50 years ended when his bride, Lorine passed away on November 30, 2004. Louis never remarried.

Louis worked as a machinist at Murray Gin and later at Recognition Equipment. After 30 years of employment Louis retired from Recognition Equipment.

He always made you laugh, lent more than a helping hand, opened his heart and doors to family and friends throughout the years. Louis is known for his quick humor, infectious laugh and a mean game of dominos while wearing his favorite "domino hat" that he received for his 75th birthday. In his leisure time he enjoyed watching baseball games and wearing his Texas Ranger's baseball team gear.

Louis is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Sr. and Delsi Atkins. Also, his wife of 50 years Lorine Fitzgerald Atkins. Two children, Jo Ann Hodge and Isaac Fitzgerald. Siblings, Anne Belle Walters, Lawrence Atkins, Lloyd Atkins, Osborne Atkins, Lugertha Tramble, Myrtis Lee Carey, Bernice Beasley, and Marie Green.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted son, Foncell Fitzgerald (daughter-in-law, Thelma) of Dallas, TX. Three siblings, sisters Eartha Davis of Cerritos, California, Burnetter Atkins of Dallas, TX, brother Willie Atkins (Geraldine) of Houston, TX and sister-in-law, Ms. Hester Stiggers (Lawrence Atkins, deceased) of Dallas, TX.

A special grandson Gabriel Hodge and a host relatives including grand-children, great grand-children, nieces, a special niece, Stephanie Stiggers, nephews, community and friends.
