Obituary

Levoris John Harmon, Sr., 91, of Duncanville, Texas, passed peacefully Tuesday, March 17th.
He was born to Clayborne Harmon and Edia Huntsburry, October 13, 1928, in Kaplan, Louisiana.
In his early twenties, Levoris Sr. joined the United States Army and began his military career in 1950. He also married his only love, Mary Francis Harmon of 64 years.  Levoris Sr. and Mary had two children, Sandra and Levoris Jr. He would bring his wife, Mary, and two children with him on tour whenever he could.
During his Military career, Levoris Sr. served in the Korean War in 1951 where, according to the Rite of the ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, he was BAPTIZED.  He completed 4 more overseas tours:  Germany twice and Vietnam twice. Levoris Sr. received several honors: a National Defense Service Medal, a Korean Service Medal, an Army Commendation Medal, a Bronze Star Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, and a Marksmanship Badge among many other decorations.  He attended The Defense Language Institute located in Presidio of Monterey, California and finished his high school education in the Army.  Levoris Sr. then completed college classes to receive a certification as an X-Ray Technician.  He was honorably discharged as a First Sergeant after serving 24 years.
After retirement from the US Army, Levoris Sr. went to Barber College and became a licensed barber.  He enjoyed fishing and spending his days with family and friends. He devotedly cared for his wife Mary up until her death on May 26th, 2014.
Levoris Sr. was an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church of Beaumont, TX before joining Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Duncanville, TX.
Levoris is survived by 2 children: Sandra James of Ocala, FL, Levoris Harmon, Jr. of Desoto, TX; 4 grandchildren: Wilbert Jones of Arlington, TX, Marisa Gibson of San Antonio, TX, Levoris John Harmon III of Norman, OK, and Kristal Harmon of Dallas, TX; nine great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Levoris is preceded in death by his wife: Mary Harmon; brothers: Joseph Trahan, Lovelace Trahan, Eldridge Harmon, Leonard Robinson, Jr., and sisters: Merlene Jones, Earline Yokum, and Marjorie Francis.
