Larry Wayne
Jones
December 11, 1955 – February 27, 2026
Larry Wayne Jones
Larry Wayne Jones was the firstborn of seven children, born to Lawrence Jones and the late Helen Hardeman Jones. From an early age, Larry displayed a quiet curiosity and thoughtful nature that would remain with him throughout his life.
Larry was a proud graduate of South Oak Cliff High School, Class of 1973. As a young boy, he loved reading and had a special interest in science. As he grew older, his passion turned to Kung Fu. He greatly admired Bruce Lee and eagerly read every book he could find on the subject. Inspired by what he learned, Larry even made his own pair of nunchucks using sticks and a broken chain. He could often be found outside, spending hours practicing and twirling them with remarkable skill.
Music was also one of Larry's great passions. During the mid-1970s, he started a neighborhood band, bringing rhythm, excitement, and creativity to his community. Though naturally quiet, Larry was always observant and deeply thoughtful. He loved language and often used the big words he discovered in dictionaries, encyclopedias, and the Bible, leaving others both impressed and amused by his knowledge.
Larry also had a distinct sense of style. He loved the movie Super Fly so much that he often dressed the part whenever he went out, wearing a red suit with a white fur collar and a red hat to complete the look. In the 1970s, Larry wore that style with pride. He did not simply live life—he lived it boldly, confidently, and on his own terms.
Known to many as "Big Man," Larry devoted more than 41 years of faithful service to the United States Postal Service at the Bulk Mail Distribution Center in Dallas, Texas. He began his postal career as a mail handler and jitney driver. Anyone who knew Larry knew he possessed a strong sense of justice and fairness. He would never allow a coworker to be treated unfairly, earning a reputation as one of the most respected and powerful Chief Union Stewards on the third shift. Larry's influence extended beyond his fellow workers, as he also shared his knowledge with management, helping to bridge the gap between leadership and labor with wisdom, integrity, and strength. His professional legacy is one of fairness, dedication, and quiet leadership. Larry retired only when his health no longer allowed him to continue
In the summer of 2006, Larry met the love of his life, Tammie Deaton. Their bond blossomed into a beautiful love story, and on December 23, 2012, on a cold and snowy winter day, the two were united in marriage. Together, they began a journey filled with faith, love, devotion, and many cherished memories.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Hardeman Jones; his daughter, Krystal KeAnna Jones; and his brothers, Michael Jones and Vincent Eric Jones.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory and celebrate his life: his devoted wife, Tammie Jones; his children, Raphael Jones of Dallas, Texas, Candace Jones of West Palm Beach, Florida, Taurus Wells of Dallas, Texas, and Kyandra "KeyKey" Blackshire of Dallas, Texas; his father, Lawrence Jones; his siblings, Donald Jones (Paola), Rena Hines (Ralph), Kimberly Hill (Charles), and Christopher Jones (Tracye); along with a host of beloved grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and many other relatives and friends.
Larry Wayne Jones lived a life marked by strength, wisdom, individuality, and love. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
