September 14, 2001 – November 25, 2025
Lane Lewis, beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, teammate, and friend, passed away on November 25, 2025, at 9:53 p.m. He was 24 years old. Born on September 14, 2001, in Los Angeles, California to Kimberly Weathers and Lane Lewis Jr.
Lane was the eighth of Kimberly's ten children. He was surrounded by a powerful circle of love and support, a village that included his mother, and his late grandmother, Lola W. Jenkins. The men who shaped him were his brothers, his uncles, his football coaches and teammates, each of whom poured into him the guidance, structure, and strength that helped him grow into an extraordinary young man.
Lane was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lola W. Jenkins, who passed in 2019, and by his older brother, Paul, whose tragic death in 2020 left an indelible mark on Lane's heart. He is survived by his mother Kimberly, his siblings: Patrick, Parnell, Peier, Bobby, Pitrell, Picardo, Kimberly, and Kymeirea; his uncle Xavier Jenkins; his aunt Odessa Jenkins, with whom he had a special relationship, ten great aunts and uncles; and hundreds of cousins, extended family, and community members who loved him deeply.
Lane's childhood and adolescence were shaped by a village, women and men who protected him, encouraged him, and believed in him. They instilled in him the values of faith, discipline, responsibility, and joy. Lane accepted Jesus Christ at a young age, carrying his faith with sincerity throughout his life.
Lane was gifted, brilliant in talent, enormous in heart, and unforgettable in spirit. He was a phenomenal athlete, a truly elite football player, known for his speed, strength, and agility: 6 feet 4 inches tall, 215 pounds, handsome, muscular, and full of life. His smile could light up any space, and his presence made people feel seen. He loved music and absolutely loved to dance. He adored his family deeply. He was admired by his friends, teammates, and everyone blessed to know him.
A standout at Allen High School in Texas, one of the nation's most competitive football programs, Lane earned an athletic scholarship to Grambling State University. There, he not only excelled on the field but made history for his family. He became the first of his mother's children to graduate from college, earning his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. This achievement was a source of immense pride for Lane, for his mother, and for the entire family.
After completing his degree, Lane transferred to Stephen F. Austin University, where he played his final season of college football and began pursuing his master's degree. True to his relentless work ethic, he was working two jobs while continuing his studies, determined to build a strong future for himself and his family.
It was during this period of dedication and hard work that he tragically and suddenly passed away.
Lane was, without question, the best athlete in the family, but more than that, he was a good man. He carried himself with humility, respect, and heart. He poured love into others and received it back tenfold. He was our "Fat Daddy" as his granny proudly called him, confident, beautiful, strong, and deeply loved.
His life was short in years but enormous in impact. Lane broke barriers, lifted expectations, and raised the bar for every child in his family who will follow his path. We are devastated by his passing, but forever grateful for the gift of his life.
Lane Lewis lived with purpose, promise, and light. His memory will continue to inspire us, guide us, and remind us of the power of a village, the importance of faith, and the strength of a young man who beat every odd placed before him.
