Obituary

LaKendra Irene Avery-Scott was born August 8, 1985 to the parents of Diahann Avery and Clyde King. LaKendra passed away suddenly on March 7, 2025, at the age of 39. At an early age, she was baptized and received Christ as her Personal Savior, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering strength. A devoted wife, beloved sister, and cherished daughter, she brought warmth and joy to everyone around her. She faced life's challenges with resilience and grace, including her courageous journey following a double lung transplant.

LaKendra's passions were as vibrant as she was. She loved dancing, singing, and spending time with family, always finding joy in bringing people together. She had a natural ability to uplift those around her, whether through her infectious laughter, heartfelt conversations, or unwavering support. She was kind, compassionate, and selfless, always putting the needs of others before her own.

Her presence was a gift, and though she is no longer physically with us, the love she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

LaKendra graduated from A. Maceo Smith High School in 2003 and went on to pursue a degree in Accounting from Jarvis Christian College and Mountain View College. Later in life she met and married Larry Scott of 18 years. She later built a rewarding career at Southwest Airlines, where she formed lifelong friendships and was admired for her dedication and warm spirit.

She preceded in death; grandparents Luther and Ethel Avery; Flossie Moore; great grandparents Willie and Lillie Hayes; Aunt Delores Dukes and cousin Terry Hayes.

LaKendra grew up surrounded by her large and loving family. She is survived by her husband, Larry Scott; her mother, Diahann Avery; her father, Clyde King; and her stepfathers, Alton Smith and Mark Bryant. She also leaves behind her siblings, LaKesha Avery, LaDarius Smith, Victoria Bryant, Tasia Gilliam (Dewone) and Mark Bryant Jr., along with her aunts, Christy Cohen and Jeanetta Smith (Jesse), Shirley Smith-Hawkins (Wendell); uncle Derrick Avery (Koury) and Kenneth Avery (Denise) and nieces: Darianna Smith, Erin Avery, and nephew LaDarius Smith jr., and a host of cousins, brother and sister-in-laws and many other family members and dear friends.

Special thanks to her sister-in-law, Shawarner Jones. Your thoughtful care in keeping her hair and nails done throughout her journey ensured she felt beautiful and cherished. Your kindness and dedication meant so much, and the family is truly grateful.
