Obituary

Katheryn Resha Sanders Boyd was born on January 23, 1959, to Shirley Jean Talton and William Sanders Jr. She departed this life on December 11, 2024. Katheryn accepted Christ at the age of 18 following the birth of her only son. She attended Dallas Public Schools, including Elijah M. Peace and Sarah Zumwalt Jr. High, where she served as co-captain of the cheerleading squad. During her high school years, she was part of the business cluster at Skyline Career Development Center and graduated a year early.

Katheryn was a funny, vibrant person who believed in living life to the fullest. Known for her willingness to help anyone she could, she participated in the Big Brother Big Sister organization. Her love for sports led her to try various activities, excelling as an avid bowler for over 30 years, with a career-best score of 299. She also played tennis, golf, roller skated, and ice skated. Katheryn's fearless attitude meant she never shied away from trying something new.

Throughout her life, Katheryn balanced full-time work with other pursuits, including working as a hairdresser and even competing in the Miss Texas competition in Houston. In 2000, she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management from Northwood University in Cedar Hill, Texas. She had a successful career in the corporate relocation industry, holding several managerial positions over 25-plus years that involved extensive travel. In 2009, she began working for the Department of Defense Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) as a manager, retiring in October 2022.

Katheryn was a dedicated member of Meadow Hill Baptist Church, serving in various capacities to ensure the church's well-being. In 2017, she reunited with Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where she had grown up as a child. Her devotion to her faith and community was evident in everything she did.

In 1977, Katheryn married Herbert Lee Boyd, and together they had one son, Korey Lamont Boyd, who was deeply cherished and affectionately referred to as "spoiled" by those who knew them.

Katheryn is preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Jean Taulton Sanders; her brother, Willie Charles Conner; her grandparents, Matilda and Kastoria Taulton, and Verna and William Sanders Sr.; and numerous aunts and uncles.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Korey Lamont Boyd; grandchildren: Ja'Koria Payne (her first baby, who shares many of her traits), Heavyn Banks (she has gifted hands as a hairstylist like her), Christopher Boyd (the shy but brilliant one), Kourtney Boyd (the one who had her granny wrapped around all her fingers and shares her traits), and Tristan Boyd (her shy baby). Katheryn is also survived by her great-grandchild, Xuri Perkins (the talker of them all).

Her legacy is further carried on by her father, William Sanders Jr.; her only sister, Linda Jean Conner-Richardson; nephews Richard Conner, Andre Richardson, Terrence (Cassie) Richardson; niece Tiffany Guy; two aunts, Chanis Jo Hawkins and Martha Echols; and a host of great-nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Katheryn also shared a special bond with her sisters at heart: Tracy Ray Lewis, Lois Kurkendahl, and Linda Stafford, who were invaluable in her life.

Katheryn Resha Sanders Boyd will be remembered for her unwavering faith, adventurous spirit, and profound love for her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and joy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
