Obituary

Jewel Graves Brown was born on June 27, 1937, to the union of Savada Hill and Jimmie Smith in Shreveport, LA. She was affectionately known as Rose-Mary to her family and friends.

Rose accepted Christ as her Lord Jesus Savior at an early age. She was baptized at Bethlehem Baptist Church by the late Rev. P. M. Robinson. She was a member of Bethlehem and sang in the choir until she relocated to Dallas, TX in the mid-1980s. After moving to Dallas, she joined Carver Heights Baptist Church, where she served the Lord and was an active member of the Nurse's Guild, and a devoted Deaconess under the leadership of Pastor Daryl Carter.

She was married to the late Louie D Graves and to this union six children (Louis Graves Jr., Anthony Scott Graves, Yolanda Gail Graves, Janell Graves Armstrong, Sandra Bradford-Graves and Paula Graves Anderson) were born. In addition to raising her children after divorcing Louie, she also raised her grand-daughter LaCaudria Graves from birth as her daughter. She later married Edwin H. Brown after relocating to Dallas,TX.

She was educated in the Caddo Parrish school system in Shreveport, LA. She also earned numerous awards and accolades for her stellar skills as a Sales-woman in an array of industries including but not limited to Cosmetics, Insurance and Retail.

She supported her family and earned a living as an Assembly Line Manager at Beaird-Poulan Division (LA), in Transportation Services for Louisiana Caddo Parrish school system, Dallas Independent and Mesquite Independent School Districts, and as an award winning Sales-woman.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jimmie Smith and Savada Smith Hill; her husband Edwin Brown; her children Yolanda Gail Graves, Janell Armstrong and Anthony Graves; her grand-children Ken-Andre Edwards and Shakela Brown; and her siblings Irma Boykins, Lois "Betty" Johnson, Juanita "Jim" Johnson and Roosevelt "Hulk" Hill.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her children Louis Graves Jr., Sandra Bradford-Graves, Paula Anderson and LaCaudria Graves; her grand-children Tokela, Frankco, Jewel, Louis Lopez, Shaka, Carmen, Brittany, Rodney Jr. and LaPaula, several great and great-great grand-children; her siblings William "Clay" Hill, Alice Hill, Juanita "Faye" Mitchell and Eula Speed; her devoted child-hood friend since the age of 6 years old Euradell Martinez; several nephews, nieces, a host of loved ones and friends.
