Jerry Augustus Armstrong was born on November 9, 1949, at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, to the late Deacon Jefferson Augustus Armstrong and Mineola Giddings Armstrong. He was the firstborn of the two, arriving 15 minutes before his twin sister, Sherry Ann. From the very beginning, Jerry’s life was grounded in faith, love, and purpose.

Jerry accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Reverend J.W. Batty at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas. Early Christian childhood activities were a part of his upbringing and way of life. He continued to advance himself through the Dallas Independent School District, attending J.J. Rhoads and Pearl C. Anderson, and later graduating from Lincoln High School in 1968. While at Lincoln, he was a member of the Advanced Tiger Band, the Modern Music Masters (Music Honor Society), the USA Club, and served as President of the Spanish Club during his junior year. The continuation of his preparation in life also included El Centro and Eastfield Colleges.

His life continued to prosper as he made an everlasting commitment and united in Holy Matrimony on November 1, 1969, to Miss Ruby Louise Sparks of Dallas, Texas, at Greater Peoples Missionary Baptist Church. Their union was one of enduring love, friendship, and devotion. Together they shared 56 and a half years of marriage and were blessed with two daughters, Chavela Terese Armstrong and Vivica Mone’t Armstrong.

Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged as a Vietnam veteran. During his military service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, and other honors and awards.

His life’s journey gained further momentum as he worked to provide for the well-being of his family through his employment with the U.S. Selective Service System, Southland Corporation, and Security Couriers, where he served as a clearinghouse supervisor representing checks for the Federal Reserve Bank and later as Vehicle Supervisor (Security Couriers). He also dedicated 17 years of service to the United States Postal Service at the Dallas Bulk Mail Center, where he received numerous awards, letters of appreciation, and was recognized as an original OWL Circle Member (NMO Tour 3).

His joy in life was his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was affectionately called Brother, Uncle Jerry, Paw-Paw, and Grandpa by his family.

As a humble servant of Christ, Jerry was a faithful member of Greater Peoples Missionary Baptist Church, where he continued the foundation of a Christian background as a youth worker, 2nd President of the Teenagers’ Choir, ordained Deacon, and member of the Board of Trustees appointed by his father-in-law, Deacon Robert Bell Sparks, Coordinator of Men’s Fellowship (Brotherhood), Shepherd Helpers Ministry, and Men’s Sunday School Class teacher.

Jerry peacefully departed this life on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 7:45 a.m. We praise and thank God for the life, love, and legacy Jerry shared with us for 76 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Deacon Jefferson Augustus Armstrong and Mineola Giddings Armstrong.

Jerry leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 56 and a half years, Ruby Louise Armstrong, his best friend since the age of 11 and his lifelong sweetheart; his two beautiful and devoted daughters, Chavela Terese Armstrong and Vivica Mone’t Armstrong; three precious granddaughters, LaPorscha S. Armstrong, Kenu S. Armstrong, and Othashia B.L. Harris; four handsome grandsons, Jeremy “JJ” Guillory and his wife, Simmy Guillory, Timothy J. Jackson, Jr., Jamarea J. Noble, and Claude L. Noble, Jr.; five great-grandchildren, Mikayla A. Armstrong, Kennedi G. Littlejohn, Brandon C. Williams, Jr., Kaison L. Williams, and Samira C. Guillory; his twin sister, Sherry A. Armstrong Bray-Frazier; two nieces, Sondra Lee Stevens and Terri Lynn Rowe; six great-nieces; three great-nephews; seventeen great-great-nieces and nephews; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
