Jen's Story
This is the story of Jennifer (Jen) Hickmon. Jennifer was a wonderful woman who was loved, is
missed, and will always be cherished. Our "Jenny" or "Jen" was an amazing mom, daughter,
sister and friend. Jennifer's life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by
her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives.
Her smile brought so much joy to everyone.
Jennifer's story starts on May 11, 1983, the third child to Orestia and Linda Williams. She
attended B.F. Darrell Elementary School, Zumwalt Middle School, and A. Macio Smith High
School. After completing her undergraduate degree from Texas Southern University, she
enrolled at Concordia University Texas and earned a Masters of Education.
After college, Jennifer moved back to Dallas and started her career in teaching, a lifelong dream.
At the young age of six, Jennifer knew she wanted to be a teacher. She spent her childhood
making everyone around her play school. She was a bossy teacher, even at a young age and
believed in discipline. For the past 13 years, she worked at Young Men's Leadership Academy at
Fred F. Florence Middle School as a Physical Education teacher and coach.
Jen never wasted a single second of life. While we will probably always wish for one more day, I
am grateful God gave her, our family, and friends the precious time we had with her here on
earth.
Jen loved to shop, travel and eat out. She made a sport out of all of it. She also loved sports,
especially basketball. She played in high school and later at college. She was passionate about
supporting kids in any way she could. She went to every basketball, volleyball, football, Step and
dance recital. If your child needed a cheerleader, she was it.
Her soul was pure, heart was golden, and her wisdom priceless.
One of Jen's favorite songs was Webbie's "Independent" and she lived the spirit of the song
every single day of her life.
The true image of devotion, love, and strength, Jen tirelessly loved her family and friends;
especially the beautiful love of her life, her daughter, Kelis. She devoted her life to Kelis, she
was her greatest accomplishment.
We are sad that we won't hear Jen's voice or her laugh or see that beautiful 1,000-watt smile.
Her unconditional love and guiding spirit will carry us forward — continuing to influence
everything we do. We will honor her legacy by continuing to move forward and have the best
life we can.
