Obituary

James Lee Woodard departed this earthly life for his heavenly home on October 15, 2012 in Dallas, Texas.

James was born on October 5, 1952 in Dallas, Texas. He was one of the Texas Exonerees. He was arrested for a crime he did not commit and served 27 years in the Texas State Penitentiary. During that time, he graduated from truck driving school and received a degree in Electronics from Lee College. He spent a great deal of time in the library where he read countless books on Law and became very proficient in the justice system and wrote numerous letters and writs to officials regarding his case.

James' release date came on April 28, 2008. He was interviewed by Scott Pelley for 60 minutes. Also, CNN was there when he applied for his driver's license. James' big day came when he received a full pardon from our own Governor of Texas Rick Perry. James manager to get some things done such as, helped to reform the eyewitness identification policy, assited state legislature with the comprehensive exoneree reform plan, and contributed to the compensation received from Timothy Cole Act by making it tax exempt. He was trying to correct a system that has failed him and so many others.

Left to cherish his memories and defend his honor: sister, Youlanda R. Woodard, niece, Brandalyn K. Woodard; nephew, Everett James Heath and a host of other relatives and friends.

The homegoing celebration will commence on Saturday, October 27, 2012 1:00PM at Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home.
