James was born to Jimmie Lee and Philmore Peterson in Dallas, Texas, on November
5, 1943. As a child, he excelled academically. In 1961, he graduated from James Madison High School, where he was both a scholar and quarterback. He later graduated from Bishop College with a degree in mathematics. He fought in Vietnam while serving in the United States Army. Following his military duty and studies, he began a successful career as a computer engineer at LTV, General Motors, and Texas Instruments.
In 1968, James met Helen Washington, the love of his life, at Bishop College. Two years later, on June 1, 1970, they wed. In 1978, they were blessed with their daughter Megan.
James enjoyed volunteering at his church, True Gospel Missionary Baptist Church, in addition to being a devoted and loving husband, father, and "Pa Pa." He had a passion for serving the people of God. He remained involved by serving as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and in other roles. Throughout his life, he maintained an unwavering trust in God, which he shared with all people surrounding him.
James Andrew Peterson moved to his eternal resting place on February 1, 2023
at age 79. James is reunited in Heaven with his parents, two sisters, Willie Faye Rose and Ruth Rutherford. He is survived by his wife Helen, his daughter Megan (Kelvin), his brother Philmore Peterson, II (Ruby), his granddaughter Isabella and grandson Kelvin II, as well as a multitude of other family, friends, and loved ones.
