Coach Price Program

Jack Price, the oldest son of John Thomas Price and Letha Davis Price, was born in Dallas, Texas, on May 22, 1932. As a small child, Jack spent some of his younger years living in Elkhart, Anderson County, TX, with his grandparents, Abraham Price and Emma Dickerson playing with his cousins. He attended Henderson Elementary School before returning to Dallas.

As a lifelong member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, TX, he was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, later serving as a church Trustee. He enjoyed a daily phone conference with his prayer partners, a men's fellowship group, for bible study, and Christian fellowship.

Jack developed a love for sports early in life that lasted throughout his adulthood. As a Booker T. Washington High School student, he excelled in football and track. His athletic abilities earned him a full scholarship in football at Prairie View A & M University (PVAMU) in Prairie View, Texas. After entering college in 1949, he earned a Bachelor of Science and later a Master's in Education. During his undergraduate years, he excelled in football, receiving a host of honors, including being a vital part of two Conference Championship teams in 1951-52. He was named Most Valuable Player in 1952, being recognized as "the Best Defensive Player" on PVU's 1952 team.

He served two years in the United States Army as a military radar operator and received an honorable discharge. After serving in the military and graduating from college, Jack distinguished himself as an American History teacher, coach, and student mentor for 40 years with Dallas Independent School District. He began his professional career as an educator and coach at Booker T. Washington High School from 1963 to 1967. Later he became an educator and assistant head coach at L. G. Pinkston High School from 1967 until he retired in 2003.

He has had the pleasure of being a head coach for Soccer and Swimming and an Assistant Coach for Football, Basketball, Baseball, and Track & Field. He taught Driver's Education and was blessed and honored to lead groups of young men in a school-based chapter of an international non-profit Christian sports ministry known as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He firmly believed in education and encouraged his students to finish high school and seek higher education.

Coach Jack Price was honored with induction into the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame, housed in the African American Museum located in Dallas, TX, in 2004 and the Prairie View A&M University Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.

So, whether you called him "Husband, Friend, Coach, Prayer-Partner, Daddy, Grandpa, or Jack," Coach Jack Price was loved and respected by many.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John and Letha Price, brothers John Price Jr., Raymond Chris Price, Warner Lee Price, and David Ray Price, Sr., son Arthur Ray Price, grandson Tristan "Tony" Rivera, and granddaughter Keyanna Price-Wells.

Jack is survived by his wife, Linda Richardson-Price; three children Jack Price, Jr., (Arlette) of Denver, Co., Everette Jay Price of Dallas, Tx., and Atty Elaine G. Price of Dallas, Tx. Bonus children Venesha Curry (Michael) of Lancaster, TX. and Reginald Richardson of Dallas, Tx., grandchildren Damon Javon Price, Jack Price III, Nicholas Curry, Reginald Richardson Jr., Miracle Richardson Fuller Curry, Destinee Williams Esq., and Serenity Richardson as well as a host of great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
