Ivan Darnell Self passed away at his home in Carrollton, Texas on October 13, 2021, at the age of 55. Born on January 31, 1966, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ivan was the son of Raymond L. and Lucille R. Self. Being a member of a military family there were relocations that resulted in Ivan attending several public-school systems to include Fort Bragg and Cumberland County, North Carolina. Ivan graduated from Westover Senior High in 1984, at Fayetteville, NC, and attended Pembroke State University (PSU), at Pembroke, NC, and graduated with a BS degree in 1989. Ivan also successfully completed the University's Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) program and received a commission of 2nd Lieutenant. Due to conflicting personal goals, Ivan elected not to pursue an active duty military career and instead served in the National Guard and Army Reserves.

Following his graduation from Pembroke State University, Ivan held positions such as licensed Stockbroker, Financial Advisor, and a Principal in various entrepreneurial ventures. Ivan had a wonderful personality, and he did not meet any strangers, as acknowledged by those who knew him.

In December 2003, he was united in marriage to Roxanne Lucia. He leaves to cherish is memories a wife, Roxanne Self of Carrollton, TX; parents, Raymond and Lucille Self of Mesquite, TX; brother, Reginald L. Self of Mesquite, TX; three stepdaughters, Lynne Patton (John) of Carrollton, TX, Misty Hoffman (Gabe) of Seattle, WA, Nona Hunter (Jeromie) of Cape May, NJ; four stepgrandchildren, Tara Kramer of Carrolton, TX, Zack Kramer of Carrollton, TX, Stephanie Hoffman of Seattle, WA, and Piper Hunter of Cape May, NJ; uncle, Lloyd G. Self, Odenton, MD; three aunts, Myrties Hamilton of Philadelphia, PA, Cathy D. Smiley (Sam) of Conyers, GA, Georgia Phillips (Eldridge) of Petersburg, VA, and a host of other relatives and friends.
