Imogene Spencer Minter Stafford, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, and cherished woman of God, peacefully entered eternal rest on October 6, 2026, at the age of 101.
Born on February 12, 1925, in Purley, Texas, Imogene was the daughter of Henry Washington Spencer and Lydia Spencer. She later made her home in Mount Vernon, Texas, before moving to Dallas, Texas, to be with her daughter.
Imogene was a woman whose life was deeply rooted in her faith. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was known as a praying woman. Prayer was not simply something she did—it was a part of who she was. She believed in the power of prayer and faithfully lifted her family, loved ones, and others before God. Her faith, strength, wisdom, and devotion to the Lord left an everlasting impression on everyone blessed to know her.
Throughout her life, Imogene was a devoted member of the church. She faithfully attended Denton Baptist Church where she was a deaconess, sang in the choir, and served as the women’s mission president, before moving to Dallas, where she became a member of Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. There she attended Sunday School faithfully under the teaching of Sis. Joyce Cooper. She was also a devoted attendee of the annual Women’s Conference held at Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church until her health began to decline.
Imogene was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Washington Spencer and Lydia Spencer; her sister, Grace Spencer Custer; her brother, Richard Spencer; her husband, Herbert Stafford; and her beloved children, Velma Brodnax, Norris Minter, and Larry Joe Minter. She was also preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter, Nedaline Brodnax.
