Honor B
Dixon Jr.
July 4, 1927 – November 15, 2024
Mr. Honor B. Dixon Jr., born July 4, 1927, in Marshall, Texas the third child of four to Honor B. Dixon Sr., and Ella D. Dixon. Jim as he was affectionately called, received his formal education in the Marshall School District. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Honor enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 and served until 1946 on the USS Hornet Fleet. Upon his many travels while serving in the Navy he was overtaken with the city of San Francisco, California and made the decision to place roots in that city for the next 70 plus years of his life. It was clear to him that his life would be one of service as the Navy was followed by his service as an officer at San Quinton Penal Institution, the United States Postal Service and The San Francisco Trolly Car System as a tour guide.
As he was taught from the early existence of his life, that his spiritual commitment to Christ should take priority so he quickly united with the Providence Baptist Church and served there over 50 years as the only male usher until his health began to fail in 2019.
Honor was an avid traveler, walked at least 5 miles a day, loved reading and was self-taught in speaking a few different languages. He was one of the kindest and most gentle souls you could ever meet, never complaining. He spent the balance of his days being loved and cared for deeply by his family and the beautiful staff of The Hillcrest of North Dallas.
Honor is preceded in death by his parents Honor B. Dixon Sr. and Ella D. Dixon, two sisters: Fannie M. Hampton and Marie Hudson. One brother: Claude W. Dixon, Sr. He is survived by his sister: Mary N. Garrett, Nephews and Nieces: Bobby R. Dixon, Sr. (Darnisha) Jacki Garrett Johnson (James) Readie Dixon Elmo (George), Mary Nell Dixon, Phillip Hudson, Sr. (Theressa), Mary Hudson Chalmers, Shirley Hudson Sanders
(Robert), Clarice Hudson, Herman Hudson, Sr. (Cynthia) and a host of Great and Great, Great Nephews and Nieces and one very dear friend, Ruth L. Cummings of San Francisco, California
