Obituary

Hollies Hughey, 78, aka "Cookie," our beloved husband, father, uncle, and friend transitioned on January 18, 2020. Hollies was born January 22, 1942 to Jessie and Eula Hughey of Kaufman, Texas. He was educated in the Kaufman Public School System and graduated from Pyle High School. He accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Arie Baptist Church in Kaufman, Texas. He then became a member of Peaceful Rest Baptist Church until the passing of Dr. Grisby Baker, Jr. He then became a member of Concord Church in Dallas, Texas until his health prevented.

After high school, he served four years in the United States Air Force and later attended Texas Southern University (TSU). Hollies worked with Ford Motor Company Parts Distribution Center for 37 and a half years. After retirement, he was an active member of the UAW Local 870 Retiree Chapter for Region 5 where he served as the Recording Secretary.

In 1987, he married his wife, Benita Jones Hughey, in Terrell, Texas. They were married for 32 years before he transitioned home to be with the Lord.

Hollies was a dedicated son, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a devoted and die hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys, win or lose. He also had a love for all things sports related, whether it was attending a Cedar Hill High School game or watching multiple sporting events on TV. Hollies was also an active participant in the Cedar Hill community.

Everyone who knew Hollies loved him. He was always there to lend a helping hand, give advice, and attend important life events. Hollies was a dedicated father and uncle to his sons, nieces, and nephews. Hollies was always there for any golfing tournament, piano recital, theater performance, basketball game, or graduation. Not only did he have a good sense of fashion, but he was also a connoisseur of tennis shoes, to which he owned over 100 pair, along with matching socks. Hollies also had a very competitive spirit and enjoyed challenging others like his sister, Lydia, during family games. Hollies enjoyed having conversations about bible scripture with his friend Albert Pierce. His deepest conversations were held with his lifelong friend and guardian angel, Monson Durham. Famous words of Hollies were "book it," which meant it's time to go back home as he fondly considered that to be Jamaica. He loved traveling with friends and family and making lifetime memories.

Hollies is preceded in death by both parents; three sisters: Linnie Lou Moss, Ruby Lee Henry, and Nealy Chappell Hughey Wilhite; six brothers: Delfrey Hughey, Jessie Hughey Jr., Robert Earl Hughey, Harry Hughey, William Albert Hughey, Sr., and Walter L Hughey.

Hollies leaves to cherish his loving memories: wife, Benita Hughey of Cedar Hill, TX; two sons: Hollies Hughey II of Cedar Hill, TX and Collin Hughey of New York; sister: Lydia Nix of Heartland, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
