Herman Bennett Simpson was born December 18, 1941 under the parentage of Alma Lee Simpson and J.P. Simpson in Reagan Falls, Texas. He was raised by grandparents A.C and Minnie Bledsoe along with several cousins, uncle and nephew. Herman earned his high school diploma from Booker T. Washington in Marlin, Texas in 1960. Immediately following high school, he enlisted into the United States Air Force and served for three years. Once out of the military, he attended community college in Dallas, TX. Herman married Miss Mary Lou Johnson in 1965 in Marlin, Texas. They later relocated to Dallas, Texas and created their family, Sheronda and Joi.

Herman loved to work! He was a truck driver, postal worker and retired from the Veteran's Hospital where he served as the warehouse supervisor.

Herman is a 33rd Mason that served at Jermiah Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. from 1992 to present.

Herman, often referred to as "Big Simp" by friends, was known for being outspoken, punctual and straight to the point. In his leisure time, he enjoyed cooking, fishing, playing dominoes/cards, and watching sports/westerns.

Herman loved his family, friends and loved ones. Herman was preceded in death by: his parents, J.P. and Alma Simpson, grandparents; A.C. and Minni Bledsoe, sister; Polly Kelly, nephew; Larry Bledsoe, son; Lance Simpson. He leaves to cherish his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary Simpson; daughter, Sheronda Walden; daughter, Joi Simpson; son in-law, CJ; grandchildren, Kendall & Christopher Walden; brother; Lugene Simpson; niece; Jaynell Simpson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
