Obituary

On Sunday October 19, 2025. The sweet spirit of our beloved Herman Lewis ended. His pure kindness and love for people spread over his life, and his character made him so charming that he drew friends from far and near. He was loved by many that came in direct contact with him.

Herman was born September 1, 1941, in Naples Texas to Nethalia James-Rainey and Elzie Lewis. He was the 2nd child of 13 children. He attended school in Morris County and graduated from Traylor High School in HughesSprings, Texas. After graduating high school Herman migrated to Dallas, Texas to help support his mother and siblings. Having the strong work ethics his mother taught him, He began his employment journey at Neuhoff Meat company for 6 years. He worked 18 1/2 years at Hormel and retired from Kraft Foods after working 15 years.

Herman met and married Elizabeth Price on October 27, 1969. He was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost in 1975 at Full Gospel Holy Temple under the leadership of Apostle Lobias Murray and Dr. Shirley Murray on Fordham Road. He served as an usher and sung with the Joyful Soul quartet singers. He remained a faithful member of Full Gospel Holy Temple under the leadership of Apostle Herman Murray and Lady Danielle Murray until his health declined.

Herman had a deep love for fishing and playing baseball. He was known for always sharing words of wisdom, earning him the affectionate nickname "Professor." His kind heart and generous spirit touched everyone he met. Herman found joy in helping others, often teaching them how to fish and sharing his special tricks for catching the biggest ones. He was loved by his sisters and brother as well as his grandchildren and great grandchild.

His loving and devoted wife cared for her husband with unwavering faith and compassion until his final days. Her strength, tenderness, and selfless love were a true reflection of her heart. She stood by his side through every moment, ensuring he was surrounded by comfort, dignity, and the same love they shared throughout their life together.

He leaves to cherish his memories, Wife: Elizabeth Lewis, 6 children: Averill (Felicia) Lewis, Herman D. Lewis Jr., Frank Clark, Trecia Lewis. One son in law: Charles Bowens, One daughter-in-love: Annette Bryant. 6 siblings: Artie C Freeman, Jerridean Salsbury, Carolyn Miller, George (Mary)Rainey, Daniel Rainey, Nina Rainey.  Special niece:Meloney Price; 11 grandchildren Mario, Ashley (Aaron),Mayiesha, Cameron, Mariah, Phillip, Destiny, Cierra, Deja,Jayda, Asa. 11 Great-Grandchildren. 2 best friends: Sister Winnie Kyle and Lorenza Maybrey; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  He was proceeded in death by his mother and father, one daughter Lanetta (Skeeter) Clark-Bowens, one son Shelbert Clark and 4 siblings.
