Obituary

Herbert Lofton Moore Sr. was born on November 9, 1930 in Marshall, Texas to the parents of Spurgon and Arzalia Moore. Herbert was preceded in death by his mother at a year old and was raised by his aunt Lockie Harris of Marshall, Texas. Herbert attended Pine Bluff Baptist Church in Marshall where he accepted Christ at a young age. Herbert graduated in 1945 from H.B Pemberton High School located in Marshall and furthered his studies at Bishop College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science in 1951.

Herbert met his soulmate Veletta Green in Marshall, and after dating took her as his wife on August 23, 1952. Shortly after their marriage the couple moved to Dennison, Texas where they remained for a short period of 2 years. In 1954 Herbert enlisted and served in the United States Army as a small arms instructor for 2 years at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri where he retired as a Corporal. After his service in the military, he and  wife moved to Dallas where he worked for Atlanta Life Insurance as an agent. After working for Atlanta Life, Herbert was employed at the V.A Hospital in Dallas. Herbert and Veletta during this time united with the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in 1956 under the leadership of the late Rev. A.C Horton.

Herbert and Veletta became parents of a daughter in 1959 (Rhonda), and in 1961, Herbert Moore became employed with the United States Department of Labor as an investigator. Herbert and Veletta welcomed their second child a son (Herbert Jr.). In 1962 after the birth of their son they united with Carver Heights Baptist Church where Herbert was ordained as a Deacon in 1977. Herbert retired from the Department of Labor in 1985 and became a substitute teacher at Spruce and Skyline High School. He also assisted his wife with her childcare center (Tiny Tots Academy) until her retirement and closure in 2002. After leaving Carver Heights in 1986, Herbert and his wife became charter members of the Antioch Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, and a member of the hospitality committee until he was called home. Herbert pledged Omega Psi Phi in the Spring of 1996.

Herbert is preceded in death by his parents Spurgeon and Arzalia Moore and wife Veletta Moore. He leaves to cherish his memories: Daughter Rhonda Harris ( James); Son Herbert Moore Jr.; granddaughter Naija Richardson (Jerrell); grandsons Richard Jones and Christoper Moore; great grandson Jamarion Richardson; great granddaughters Sharayah Richardson and Kayauana Jones. and a host of nieces, nephews and friends to cherish his memory.
