Helen Faye
Andrews
September 9, 1932 – June 5, 2024
Helen Faye Kelley Andrews was born in Ferris, TX on September 9th, 1932, to the parents of Claude Evans and Alonsa Leola Davis. Helen was baptized at an early age and was a member of Truevine Missionary Baptist Church of Ferris, Texas, where she started playing the piano for the church at the tender age of just nine.
She attended Paul Laurence Dunbar and graduated in 1949 as the valedictorian of her class. She was the recipient of numerous awards and
honors, which allowed her the honor of being accepted into Paul Quinn College in Waco, TX. She met and married James "Pete" Andrews in 1964 and they remained married until his death. Over the years, she played for several churches and groups: Truevine Missionary Baptist Church (where she played alongside her dear friend and sister Ruth Scott for 20+ years), Oak Grove Baptist Church, Mount Horeb Baptist Church, the Spiritual Echoes Male Chorus, the Ferris and Lancaster Federations, Gethsemane Baptist Church, Tel Star Baptist Church, and Rapturea Better Way Church. She was also the executive instructor of Rapturea Academy School of Music, where she taught piano. Suffice it to say, she was the best, most well-regarded, and well-known musician in the Ferris/Dallas area! She served as a minister of music for seventy-nine years until retirement.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Casey Holliness, son, Elbert Taylor, Jr. (Drucilla), step-children, James Andrews, Demetrius Andrews; stepsister the late Lula Bennett, grandchildren, Kimberlee Banks (Michael), Keith Casey, Aceila Taylor, the late Alicia Taylor; two great-grandchildren, Mi'Kendria Banks and MiKerian Banks; a special friend and sister, Lurline "Teenie" Jackson, her "adopted" children who preceded her in death: Maxine Howard, Mary Womack, Charles Jones, and a host of other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
