Hattie James Washington, the second child of James Colonel and Essie Mae Washington was born in Hearne, Texas.
At the early age, she accepted the Lord as her savior and united with The Old Elam Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. S.M. Murphy, Pastor. Upon moving to Dallas Texas she united with the True Light Missionary Baptist under the leadership of Rev. J.L. Hunter. After her husbands' death she moved her membership with her daughter to the Pearly Gate Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Thomas J. Payne and Dr. Robbie L. Moore and was a dedicated member until her health failed.
Hattie attended Blackshear High School in Hearne Texas where she was very active in track, basketball and tennis. She went to state in Tennis placing 2nd overall. Hattie was inducted into the Blackshear Hall of Fame in 2013. Hattie eventually moved to Dallas Texas to further her career. She graduated from the Madam Walker Beauty School and worked and the Ervay Beauty and Barber Shop on the corner of Ervay and Colonial for many years. Hattie also followed in her mother footsteps as a seamstress. Hattie was employee with many of the local cleaners in the southern sector of Dallas for many years as well as working from her home in both capacities as a beautician/seamstress. Hattie could also be found during many holidays in the kitchen or in the front yard on the barbeque pit cooking for her family in which she loved to do.
Hattie married Will Johnson December 7, 1970 and to this union a beautiful baby girl "Ester Marie Johnson" was born. Hattie is preceded in death by her husband Will Johnson Jr., father James Colonel Washington, mother Essie Mae Washington and two brothers James Colonel Washington Jr and Rev. Marvin L Washington.
Hattie leaves to cherish memories of life, a daughter Ester Marie (Erric) Robinson of Dallas; one granddaughter Jaz'mine L Robinson of Dallas, Texas, one grandson Erric D Robinson Jr of Dallas Texas; two great-grandchildren Erric D. Robinson III and Chanel M. King both of Dallas, Texas; two sisters Bettye Johnson of Bryan Texas, Judge Hazel (Donald) Embra of Hearne Texas, one brother Rev. Johnnie L Washington of San Antonio, Texas, niece Edith (Steven) Houston of Hearne, Texas; nephew Rev. Kenneth (Bertha) Stewart of Houston, Texas and a host of other great nieces, nephews. Special love to her cherished and devoted bingo partners and friends Cheri, Willie Faye and JoAnn, her long time employer James "Doc" Owen and her care giver Mrs. Sophia.
