Grover Lee
Robinson, Sr.
November 23, 1940 – February 25, 2022
Grover Lee Robinson, Sr. was born November 23, 1940 in Woodville, Mississippi to the late Mary Mars and Eddie Lee Robinson. He received his formal education in the Wilkinson County Schools until he decided to join his family in working the family business. He received Christ and was baptized on August 16, 1953 at St. Luke Baptist Church #1 by Pastor B.J. Jackson.
While working for his soon to be father-in-law, Grover was captivated by a young Shirley Harden. He wanted to show his interest and started to send her bags of sweet treats by her father every week when he was paid, then a courtship began. In the fall of 1962, on the campus of Alcorn State University, he chose his 'good thing,' They spent the next 59 years making beautiful memories and raising four loving children. Their home was always filled with love which allowed their love to extend to many children and young adults. After moving his family to Dallas in 1967, Grover united with the Griggs Chapel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor H.D. Webb, Sr. He served in the Male Chorus and Sunday School class #2. Grover was happiest while cooking for his family and celebrating any special occasion with his fancy footwork on the dance floor, hence earning the nickname, Hopper. With only a middle school education, Grover was blessed to own GL's Landscaping and Robinson's Trucking Company for many years. His desire to earn a retiring pension led him to the City of Dallas Streets Department. After 15 years of service, he retired on September 5, 2005.
Surrounded by his family, Grover peacefully transitioned from labor to reward on February 25, 2022.
His loved ones who preceded in death include: his parents; grandparents, William Ervin Mars Sr. and Leona Mars; two sisters, Myrtle Lacey and Linda Johnson; and two brothers, James Robinson and Huey Robinson.
Grover's legacy of love is passed on through his beloved wife, Shirley Temple Robinson; children, Sharon Robinson-Tolin, Mary Nelson (Ramon), Grover Robinson, Jr.(Melanie), and Walesha Robinson. A god-son who he loved and raised as his own, Steven Jones; Grandchildren: Ashley, Elijah, Kayla, S'Kendra, ShaKedra, Grover III (Lia), London, Terrance, Nikki, and Deamber; Great-grandchildren: Alicia, Lennix, Terrance Jr., Melody, Chanel, Violet, Ethan, Autumn; three sisters, Delores Jackson, Carol Crawley (George), and Sandra Jones; one brother, Duke Tilley, Jr.; sisters-in-law, Beverly Wilson, Frances Williams (Simmie), and Savannah Dent; brothers-in-law, Samuel Harden, Sr., Jessie Harden, Sr., George Harden, Sr. (Loretta), and a host of other beloved family members and friends.
