Our Heavenly Father called our dearly beloved Gregory home and peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 in Plano, TX .
Gregory was presented as a gift from God to his parents Mr. Gregory C. Rufus and Michelle Mitchell on December 9, 1985 in Dallas, TX.
Gregory accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 7 years old and was baptized along with his father and brother Darius Borders on October 3, 1993 at St. Luke Baptist Church. He served in various ministries of the church – Youth Usher, Youth Choir, and Drill Team.
Gregory attended Herbert Marcus Elementary School, John B. Hood, and Skyline High School in Dallas, TX . Gregory played football in Junior High School #68. Gregory was part of the Young Marines and graduated as such.
Growing up in the Rufus home it was not uncommon to have daily family Bible Study and prayer time at the kitchen table. Gregory being the oldest of his siblings he always wanted to make sure they were okay and would often encourage them to do the right thing.
He was a giant in stature yet gentle as a teddy bear. The family affectionately called him Dougie-Man.
Gregory worked for Pacesetters Personnel in Plano, TX as an Office Manager and his heart was to help and serve others.
Gregory was proceeded in death by his maternal grandmother Carrie Ederson; aunt Kelly Mitchell (Monroe, LA) paternal grandfather Emmitt Pitts. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved son, Mesiah Chandler Rufus, father Gregory C. Rufus, mother Leah M. Rufus and biological mother Michelle Mitchell (Monroe, LA); 4 siblings, Kyyoung Mitchell, Darius Borders, Charcell Mitchell, and Geremy Rufus, god-family, Aereale, Alec, Ashton, and Austin. Maternal grandparents – Carolyn Borders, Michael P. Robertson, Sr., Lynda Robertson, and Paternal grandparent – Hattie M. Rufus. A host of aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.
