Gloria (Glory)
Gene Walker
March 23, 1950 – April 14, 2022
Glory Gene Walker was born on March 23, 1950, in Cason, Texas to the parentage of Fletcher Walker and Elizabeth Fleming. Glory was the seventh of eight children, but when her baby brother Fletcher (F.W.) passed away, she became the baby of the family. Glory was known as "Gloria" to most family members, friends, and colleagues. She received her formal education at Central Grove Elementary School and J.J. Rhoades High School, where she graduated in 1968. Gloria's graduating class was the last class to graduate before the high school became integrated.
Gloria grew up in the church and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior at an early age. She was a true believer. Her faith became stronger as she continued her spiritual walk. Gloria was a faithful and devoted member of Greenville Avenue Church of Christ. She served in the Personal Evangelism Ministry and participated in the Ladies Bible Class.
Gloria was a self-proclaimed "daddy's girl" who kept her mother on her toes. As a little girl, she loved making paper dolls. As a teen-ager and young adult, she loved to dance. Always up for an adventure, it was not uncommon for Gloria to set the clock back a couple of hours so she could stay out past curfew. She and her sister, JoAnn, would even push their brother's car onto the road and "borrow" it. They made sure to put it back in the yard before he got home from work.
Gloria was a kind soul who lived life to the fullest. She will definitely be missed. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter (Monique), two grandsons (Christopher, Camden), a brother, Charles (Jeannie), a sister (Loycie), one nephew, Danny (Pam), three nieces, Vanya, Devia (Reginald), and Stephanie (Marvin), and a son-in-law (Chris). She also has a host of extended family members, cousins, and friends.
