Gertrude Alice Graham was born in Maypearl, Texas on February 25, 1931, to the parentage of Elsie Beal and Bryant Timmons. She received her formal education in Maypearl and graduated high school. She later graduated from Texas College where she earned her bachelor's degree in education.
For we walk by faith not by sight." II Corinthians 5:7
While attending college she became a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority and remained a dedicated member throughout her life. During this time, she met a young man that would send her lunch everyday while working. She tried to play hard to get but this young man would eventually steal her heart and become the love of her life her husband, James Worth Graham Sr.
Gertrude and James were married on September 10, 1954, and to this union three children were born. While raising a family she worked as a schoolteacher. Working at various schools in the Dallas Independent School District including Peral C. Anderson, Carter High School, Pinkston and many other schools throughout Dallas, Texas. This career allowed her to be and do what she knew best which was to be a caring, thoughtful, helpful guidance that students needed. She was the biological mother of three but became to be known as the mother of many.
Gertrude loved her family and friends and rarely missed an opportunity to express it. She was kind, sweet and thoughtful. She offered great advise and was easy to talk to. She would always offer help and assistance to anyone. She worked diligently in church with the youth and was a mentor to many. She never met a stranger and was always attentive to everyone and their needs. She was known as "Mamma Gert", "Grandma", "Sister Graham", "GG" and her home and heart was always an open door to anyone. She always welcomed people to her home to eat, relax or stay if needed. She was a great cook and baker making Sunday meals daily. Along with raising her own children she also raised her three beautiful granddaughters who gained ere wonderful qualities. To know Gertrude was to love her. She loved to travel and spend time playing cards and various events with her close friends. She could light up any room. She was simply the best.

Although we love your dearly, we could not make you stay. On Wednesday April 5th God wrapped his loving arms Getrude whispered, "Come Home, my child, your work on Earth is done." We will miss your smile, laughter, encouraging words, wisdom, and EVERYTHING about you but know that you are present with God, and we will see you again one day…. until we meet again.

Getrude leaves to cherish one daughter, Cheryl Graham Johnson one son, James Worth Graham Jr. (Sherriol). One son who preceded her in death, Dr. Ricky Roach (Gaylynn). One sister, Helen Colbert and three brothers (Alonzo Davis, Michael Davis, and Bennie Lee Davis) and one sister (Rose Callahan) who preceded her in death. She also leaves to cherish four granddaughters, Keshia Graham, KaShondria Wade and Kimetria Graham and Dlecia Tourner and two grandsons, Tremaine Roach, and Tyson Roach (Phallenetia). Eleven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who loved her dearly.
