Georgia Lee Murray was born in Chesterfield, South Carolina, on October 22, 1942, to the late George Sinclair and Gatherlee Blakeney-Sinclair. The family moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at an early age, where she was educated within the public school system. She was baptized at the Berean Baptist Church and remained a loyal and faithful member until she transferred her church membership to the Cathedral of Faith, under the leadership and guidance of Bishop Barry Connelly. As an active member, she continued to grow and learn spiritually until her health declined.
She was married to the late James Glover Murray, Sr., and from this union, she was blessed with two sons, Anthony (A.G.) and Sam. She believed in the tenets of a strong education and sacrificed tremendously so that her sons could attend Catholic schools and achieve a quality education. As a mother, she was second to none, providing nurturing and positive life lessons. This family matriarch often provided guidance and support to others in need of resources and direction. Her warm heart and loving spirit were always available to assist anyone in need of a helping hand. She lived her life in a selfless manner. This is the spirit that she proudly lived by, humbly accepting less so others could have more.
Georgia worked several jobs over the years until she secured her final job at Ken-Crest Services, where she retired in 2010 as a resident manager. She was deeply invested in family and friends. Georgia was affectionately known as Lady G for her passion and strong commitment to others. She left an indelible mark on the lives of those she touched. She was unwavering in her faith and love of the Lord. She loved all, but God loved her more, and she peacefully transitioned on January 25, 2025.
She was preceded in life by her parents, her sisters Dorothy, Irene, Geraldine, and Sara Margaret, her brother Sonny, and her son Sam. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Dr. A.G. Murray (Sherry Taylor-Murray); grandchildren Sam, Anthony II, Devon, Shacoy, and Keisha; great-grandson Zy; and a host of special nieces, aunts, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
