Georgia Mae Dillard-Sanford-Henry was born on October 13, 1929, in Dallas, Texas, the only child of George J. Dillard and Carrie Lipscomb-Dillard. Georgia was preceded in death by her parents and her first and second husbands: Freddie Carl Sanford Sr. and Richard Henry, respectively. She was also preceded in death by many aunts, one uncle, cousins, other family members, and friends.
She accepted Christ at an early age and always believed in the word of God. She was of the Baptist/Pentecostal faith. She attended Dallas schools, including Booker T. Washington High School in North Dallas. Following high school, Georgia pursued a career in administrative assisting and secretarial studies. Georgia had a real knack for fashion, beauty, and entertaining. She lit up rooms and turned heads when entering a gathering, which led her into tailoring and alterations at Laurels of Dallas, where she worked closely with the owner. More than fashion, Georgia
loved taking care of others. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren (whom she playfully called "critters") on weekends, teaching them dances and how to cook. Her generous heart granted her an opportunity to work at Walnut Place, a well-known nursing home in Dallas, where she later retired. Georgia operated in the gifts God bestowed upon her and blessed this world with her
charm, laughter, and warm smile.
In this garden, Georgia leaves cherished memories to a host of family and loved ones. She is survived by four sons: Freddie Carl Sanford Jr. (Richard Eugene Sanford—deceased), Larry Sanford, and Derrick Roger Sanford, and one daughter, Cheryl Ann Sanford-DeGrate. In addition, Georgia will be missed by fifteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and six great-greatgrandchildren. Georgia will be greatly missed by family, friends, and everyone whose heart she has touched. However, her legacy of caring for others and love
for her family will live on.
