Obituary

George Herbert Douglas, Sr.

On July 23, 1948, George Herbert Douglas, Sr., was born through the union of Sylvester Douglas Sr. and Leola Henderson Douglas of Jefferson, Texas. The ninth child out of eleven to this union he was a very competitive young man. He graduated from Central High School where he played sports and played the drums in the band. He worked for T. J. Blackburn as a truck driver, then for the Lighthouse for the Blind, then he finished his career out with Dallas Independent School District of 35 years, where he faithfully cared for the students to and from school and to their various events with no accidents and no child harmed on his watch. George loved to travel, fish, cook, hunt, sing, sports, playing cards, dominoes, sharing wisdom with others but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. Known to many as "Pig" and to others as "Hard Times", when he called you friend, daughter, son, sister, or brother, he meant it from the heart. He accepted Christ at an early age and later joined Church On The Move under the leadership of Pastor Henry Ivory.

Our beloved George is preceded in death by his father (Sylvester Douglas, Sr), his mother (Leola Douglas), his brothers (Oscar Douglas and Sylvester Douglas, Jr.), his sisters (Willa Williams, Zelma Burks, and Joanah Burks); one son (Mark English), one daughter (Nora Bogany Smith), one grandchild (Daniel Douglas) and two great grandchildren (Zamarion D'Keilynn Henderson and Elijah Huckaby).

George is survived by his beloved wife Loretta (Jackson) Douglas. He is also cherished by children: Tonya Ward-Blackshear (Joe), Felicia Douglas-Pompey (David), Demetrial L. Houston (Kristina), Herbert C Douglas, Sheila Bogany, Joyful Bogany (Roy), Candle Forks (Curtis), Carnell Mathis (Yolanda), George Douglas, Jr., Fatima Green; 36 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren; sisters: Dorothy Crowe, Ever Jay Holland Miller, Vesta Davis, Mattie Lindsey (Larry), and Doris Crawford; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
