Garline Delia
Shaw
January 28, 1941 – July 22, 2024
Garline was born to Clinton and Mozelle Long on January 28, 1941, in Jackson, TN. She attended grade school and graduated from Merry High School with honors and attended Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN. Later, she transferred to Lane College where she was initiated into the Beto Chi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. After moving to Texas, she received Master of Education in Science and Mid Management certification from Texas Women's University.
Garline taught school for 40 years in Memphis, TN, and the Dallas Independent School District (DISD). In DISD, she started as a middle Biology/Physical Science teacher and then promoted to a middle school science specialist, assistant principal, and elementary principal.
Following graduation from college, Garline joined the Beta Epsilon Omega Chapter, Memphis TN and later Alpha XI Omega Chapter, Dallas, TX. She served on various committees including Founder's Day (Committee Member), Fashionista (Chairman for three years) and Alpha Key Alliance (Vice President). She was honored as a Golden Soror in 2012.
Garline was an active member in her community. She was a long-time member of New Hope Baptist Church serving on the Scholarship Committee and Pastor Selection Board. She is also a member of the Dallas/Ft Worth Woman's Auxiliary, volunteering her time as a tutor for the Voice of Hope and Pearl Kidd's Scholarship Chair. Garline also worked with the voter registration in her neighborhood, volunteered at DFW Airport as an ambassador and served as a substitute administrator from time to time with DISD after retirement. Since retirement, Garline has enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
In 1962, Garline married Melvin B. Shaw and from this union three children were born. Preceding Garline in death; were her parents Clinton and Mozelle Long.
She is survived by the father of her children; Melvin B. Shaw (Pearl), her daughters; Ramel Simpson and Renee McClinton, her son Randall Shaw, son-in-law Charles Simpson, daughter-in-law Felicia Gent Shaw, grandchildren; Pierce Simpson, Chris Simpson, Ashton Betts (Randi), Brayden Shaw, Carrigan Shaw, Nicholas McClinton and Bryce McClinton and great-grandson; Cairo Betts. Best friend; Dorothy Mosby, special friends; Gwen Braggs and Jackie Clemmons and many loving relatives and friends.
