Frances Jean
Canada
September 4, 1936 – December 6, 2024
Francis Jean Canada was born in the humble locales of Crowville, LA, on September 4, 1936. Francis was the fourth child of LeRoy Eaton and Henrietta Collins Eaton, who raised a family of ten children. These were humble beginnings, but they also forged the characteristics of mercy, humility, and dependability in Francis—qualities that would later become her defining traits.
After completing her education at Waverly High School, Francis moved to Dallas, TX. This was a significant step toward an environment different from where she grew up, but she embraced it with open arms and an open heart. Here, she became an integral part of SMU, working in the culinary arts department, and oh, how she loved it.
Culinary arts wasn't just a job for her; it was her passion. It wasn't about cooking for dozens; it was about bringing people together, fostering fellowship, and about families and friends laughing and having an enjoyable time. It was about creating an atmosphere of togetherness, a bond that food lovers universally understand. This is where she was able to share her love through dishes she passionately infused her heart into.
But Francis wasn't just another face in the crowd; her likability stemmed from her impeccable character and unwavering integrity. She was a woman of her word—dependable and responsive. You could count on her to be there, to help, and to listen—virtues that are in short supply in our fast-paced world.
Francis leaves to cherish her memories her sons Rickey Lee Eaton (Gloria), Reginald Eaton, and Ronald Eaton; daughter Michelle Eaton Washington (Charles); grandchildren Monique Jackson, Sicora Washington, Rekedrick Winston, Donte Williams, Dazsha Jackson, and Kori Weems; sister Bertha Eddings (George); and brothers Jessie Eaton (Mildred) and LeRoy Eaton Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband Roy Lester Canada; son Richard Lee Eaton; father LeRoy Eaton; mother Henrietta Eaton; sisters Neva Robinson, Lula Mae Thomas, Mary Lee Eaton, Eliza Shelley; and brother Madison Eaton.
