Obituary

Florine Gilmore Brewer was a woman of strength, grace, and unwavering love. Born on December 26, 1943, to Harris and Eula B. Gilmore, she lived a life rooted in faith, family, and service.

At an early age, Florine accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior, a decision that guided her steps for the rest of her life. She pursued her education at Booker T. Washington Technical School, setting the foundation for a life marked by purpose and dedication.

Florine began her professional journey with the City of Dallas, where she served her community with dedication and pride. But it was in the classroom where she truly found her calling. As a Pre-K teacher assistant for Dallas ISD, she poured her heart into shaping young minds, nurturing generations of students with patience, creativity, and love. Florine retired in 2004.

Florine's heart beat loudest for her family. If you ever spent even a moment in her presence, you likely left knowing the names and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and you probably had to sit through a lovingly curated photo album of each one. She was the family historian, the keeper of memories, and one of the proud organizers of the Gilmore-Hardin Family Reunion, a bi-annual gathering that united generations across Dallas, Houston, and Louisiana.

As a lifelong member of The Church of the Living God, Florine served with joy and humility in many roles: Deaconess, Choir Member, Walkathon Chair, Mission Board President, and Benevolent Committee Member. She faithfully served wherever the Lord called her, until her health no longer allowed.

In her community, Florine remained active and engaged. She was a proud member of the Booker T. Washington Alumni Association, a dedicated participant in the YMCA Silver Sneaker Line Dance Group, and an advocate through her involvement with the NAACP.

She was a voracious reader, always with a book in hand and a story to share.

Florine was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her husband, Sidney J. Brewer; her siblings Freman Gilmore, Patsy Thomas, and Edward Gilmore.

Her legacy lives on through her loving children:

Lisa (Larry) Knight, Victor (Renee) Smith, and Monica Davis (Robert Harper). Bonus children Marilyn Brewer, Sidney Brewer Jr., William Brewer, Mark Brewer, and Demetric Beans.

Her pride and joy - her grandchildren:

Jalissa (Ryan) Dedmon, Jyrah Knight, and Cordell Smith.

Her future - her great-grandchildren:

Jayla Dedmon, Rylan Dedmon, and Komorian Smith.

Her devoted sister:

Eula Spencer.

She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were touched by her laughter, wisdom, and unfailing love.

"Well done, good and faithful servant."
