First Lady
Johnnie Mae Hollmon
April 1, 1943 – January 15, 2024
On a lovely spring day- April 1, 1943, in the oldest town in Texas- Nacogdoches- a beautiful
bouncing girl was born to the late Johnny & Mollie Randle. She was the seventh child and
the fourth daughter, and they named her Johnnie Mae.
She received her early education in Nacogdoches, graduating from both W. E. Jones
Elementary and E.J. Campbell High School's. She later moved to Houston and attended
Texas Southern University. Later she earned her B.A. in Accounting from Dallas Baptist
University.
Although she was always a country girl at heart, she ultimately moved to the city, making
Dallas her home. In January of 1968, she was introduced to a brilliant young Baptist
preacher from the Ninth Ward in New Orleans named Harvey Lee Hollmon. They became
friends but romantic feelings soon developed and Harvey shot his shot, but she made him
wait. Ultimately he won her over and she said "yes", and they were married by the late
great Pastor G.T Thomas at New Friendship Baptist Church on December 21, 1968.
They were blessed with two sons, John and Stephen. Harvey became a pastor, starting at
Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Asa, Tx. His next assignment was in Topeka, KS, at Antioch
Missionary Baptist Church. His next assignment was as President of Seminary in Denver,
Co. His last pastoral assignment brought them back where they started in Dallas, Tx,
where he pastored Alta Mesa Park Baptist Church until he retired last year. Johnnie was a
devoted wife and first lady at each assignment, who not only stood by his side, but worked
by his side. They were truly a "power couple"- Holy Ghost power.
In addition to her involvement in young women's mission auxiliaries, she could always be
found working with the youth in various capacities. Her love for God was always exhibited
in her love for church. She remained actively involved until her health would no longer
allow it.
Johnnie was also involved civically, having been a long-time member of the National
Council of Negro Women. She was also a sports enthusiast who rooted for all home
teams, including the Mavericks and the Rangers. Her greatest love was for the Dallas
Cowboys, a passion she passed on to both her sons. She could often be heard watching a
game screaming- "Run the ball boy", or "Throw the ball!" She also loved to travel,
domestically and internationally, she enjoyed playing cards, especially Bid Whiz, and she
loved to shop, as clearly she was a fashionista.
She always entered the room stylishly dressed. Seldom was she seen at church without a
beautiful hat topping off her elegant ensemble. Simply put, she was a classy lady inside
and out.
She peacefully slept away at home on Monday, January 15, 2024, after an eight year
valiant battle with Alzheimer's, surrounded by her husband and primary caretaker, her son
Stephen. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Her parents and three
brothers and three sisters preceded her in death. A very special sister for life, Stella
Jackson, also preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband Harvey Lee Hollmon, and two
sons- John B. Hollmon and Stephen L. Hollmon, brother Hilliard, sister Reba, grandson
Jamahl Binder, granddaughter Zariah Hollmon, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, &
friends. She also leaves in God's care her sisters for life, Verna Mitchell, Sandra Williams,
& Ida Smith.
