Evelyn's Story
Evelyn Smith was born in Freestone County to the parentage of Joel and Hortense Manning on March 6, 1927. She went to be with the Lord on Wednesday January 31, 2018, at the age of 90. She grew up in Fairfield, Texas, and accepted Christ at an early age at Union United Methodist Church.
She later moved from Fairfield, Texas to Teague Texas where Evelyn and Ordell Ross bore one daughter Jo Evelyn Hayes. Later on in life she relocated to Dallas, Texas which became her permanent home. Evelyn had strong work ethics where she worked for the Payne's and as an LVN for many years until she retired. She also persuaded her dream as an Interior designer. She had a unique eye for house make overs and Fashion Design. She enjoyed recreating fine clothing to fit her gracious character as a woman of God. She was a well-dressed lady with a hat to match every outfit and occasion. Hats where her master piece, she loved wearing them as well as giving them too others.
Sis. Evelyn Pringle joined Greater Mount Hebron Bible Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Horace L. Crayton on September 3, 1967 with Christian experience. She worshipped faithfully with us in Sunday Morning and Evening Services and participated in Weekly Services. She served as President of one of our Mission Circles for several years. She was a diligent worker and also helped support by lending a helping hand wherever she saw the need. She later joined Bridge to Life Christian Fellowship Church under the leadership of Sr. Pastor Jiles R. King. She was the mother of the church mission president deaconess and also a faithful prayer warrior.
Evelyn was preceded in death by: her parents, Joel & Hortense, and daughter Jo Hayes.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory: four sisters, Maurine Jones, Yvonne Winston, Joanna Taylor, and Margie Smith: one brother, Earl Ray Henry Sr.; four grandchildren: Steven(Sandra), Sonia, Sheila, Waymon Jr; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren's; three special god daughters: Mickey Fontaine, Mary Mitchell, and Vickie Curtis; and one special god son: Jiles R. King and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
Evelyn loved the Lord, and touched the lives of many people with her endless generosity, compassion, and boundless spirit. She was passionate about her family. She loved her family unconditionally and was always a phone call away.
