Obituary
Evella Mae Smith was born as Evella Mae Harris on April 10, 1934, in
Tehuacana, Texas. She was the first-born child of Bozie Henry Harris
and Gazzie Marie Brown Harris. She attended Douglas Elementary
and graduated from Dunbar High School in Mexia, Texas.
She married Mr. Charlie D. Smith Sr., and to this union a daughter,
Sheila Marie Smith, and four sons - Kenneth Wayne Smith, Charlie
D. Smith Jr., Gregory Smith, and Anthony Smith - were born. She had
a bonus son, Major Green, who loved her dearly. She was a dedicated
and faithful Army wife. After military life, she resided in Dallas, Texas.
She had a career in domestic management. Her life was dedicated to
the church and her family. A community supporter, she never met a
stranger.
She was saved under the leadership of Pastor L. Cameron at Chapel
Church of God in Christ. She was a "Mother" and faithful member of
True Vine Church of God In Christ, which later became Greater True
Vine Church.
Evella was blessed with a bonus family. Mr. David and Kathryn Waldrep
welcomed her into their life, and she gained three bonus children -
Kevin Waldrep, Kristen Waldrep-Dow, and Kyle Waldrep.
Proceeding her in death are her husband Charlie D. Smith Sr., son
Charlie D. Smith Jr., father Bozie Henry Harris, mother Gazzie Marie
Brown Harris, and siblings: James Ola Harris, Henrietta Harris-Ross,
Emma Lee Harris-Burks, Willie Otis Harris, and Odell Harris.
Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her children,
Kenneth Smith (Julie), Sheila Marie Smith, Gregory Smith, and Anthony
Smith (Rosa). A legacy of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, greatgreat grandchildren, cousins, family, and the church family.
