Obituary

Erma Jean Nealy Harris was born on September 26, 1945, in Midway, Texas. She was the third child of ten born to the parentage of George and Lutish Nealy. She grew up in Midway, and after graduating from Marion Anderson High School, she attended Huston-Tillotson College (University).

Upon completing college, Erma worked in a variety of capacities before beginning a thirty-six-year career with Federal Reserve Bank. Early retirement proved boring to the ever-busy Erma, so she went to work through the AmeriCorp VISTA program for three years. From there, she was employed by the Dallas Independent School District for ten years before finally retiring.

Erma was united in marriage to Richard Boyd Harris in 1965, and to this union, one beautiful daughter, Veronica Yvette Harris, was born.

Erma accepted Christ at an early age at the former Hatcher Street Church of Christ, now known as the Southern Hills Church of Christ. Erma was actively involved with several ministries at the Southern Hills congregation as well as several Bible studies at the Central Pointe Church of Christ. She was also actively involved in the community as a dedicated member of the neighborhood association and, most recently, had been trained through the Dallas Police Neighborhood Watch program. Most recently, she also worked through the Dallas County Election board. She was also actively involved with her retirement group of friends, known affectionately as the "Fed-Ex Girls." In addition to being an active community servant, Erma was known as well for her immaculate fashion-savvy and love of shopping.

Preceding Erma in death was her parents George and Lutish Nealy; her husband Richard Harris; daughter Veronica Harris; two brothers - George Nealy and Herbert Nealy; mother-in-law - Laverne Fulbright; and nephew - Gregory Denby.

Erma leaves to cherish her precious memory: one grandson - Robert Griffin II (RJ); sisters - Ruby Franklin, Velma Denby, George Ree Grace (Eugene), Melvin Jean Sandles (Larry), Gwendolyn Marsh, Debbra Nealy, and Chynette Nealy (oldest niece); brother - Claude Nealy; Niece/Goddaughter - Abria Franklin Perry (Hafische); Niece/special friend - Marcy L. Sandles; nieces - LaShuna K. Grace, and Angela Nealy; nephews - Byron Franklin, Arnold Grace, Kendall Grace, Kendrick Grace, and George D. Nealy II; sister-in-law - JoAnn Nealy; uncle - James Earl Nealy; aunt - Margie Nealy; cousin/special friend - Jessie Nathaniel and a host of other relatives and close friends.
