Obituary

ERMA LEE HALL was born on October 19, 1924, affectionately called "Polly" by her grandmother Ginny Royston, was the first of nine children born to John Franklin and Flora Caroline Smith in the small town of Blevins, Arkansas. Shortly after her birth her family moved to Elmo, Texas where they lived and worked on the farm. They moved from Elmo to Dallas and lived on Bethurum St. in South Dallas for many years.

She accepted Christ early in life and united with True Light Baptist Church where she served as an usher. She attended H.S. Thompson Elementary School and Lincoln High School graduating with honors in 1942. While at Lincoln High School she played basketball and ran track. During her career as a nurse, she worked at Children's Medical Center as a surgical scrub tech for ten years.  She eventually returned to Parkland Hospital working in the delivery room where she helped deliver many babies including two of her own grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She later transferred to the OB-GYN Clinic and retired after working 50 years at Parkland.

She was a kind, loving, caring, quiet spoken person, well thought of and loved by many, always smiling and willing to help whoever and wherever she could. She endured many tough situations during her lifetime, but by the grace of God was able to overcome them. She loved reading her Bible, family gatherings, watching the Cowboys, baseball, word search games, fishing and was an excellent cook.

She married the late Mr. Clevester Hall in 1950 and to this union four children were born Delores Marie, Kevin Bruce, Mark Allen and Anita Louise.

After moving to Oak Cliff, she and the family united with Jordan Baptist Church in 1966 under the leadership of Rev. R.M. Robertson and worked diligently with the Nurses Guild until her health failed.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters Delores (Lawrence) McCullough, Anita Hall; five grandsons, Terrence (Linda) Parish, Lawrence McCullough III, Kevin Lamont Holmes, Rev. Mark Bonner, one granddaughter Cydnei (Jacob) Drake.
