Elizabeth Veronica
Diggs
December 4, 1956 – September 10, 2023
Reflection of Life
Born to educators James & Dora Hall at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Houston, Texas on December 4, 1956; Elizabeth was a beautiful, inquisitive child. Joined by an older sibling of fourteen months, their mother would often dress them in similar ensembles like twins. The two girls formed a loving, complementary bond of having others' back and applauding each other's achievements that would last a lifetime. Both parents instilled in them to reverence God; that the fear of the Lord was the beginning of wisdom. Dora & James Hall also emphasized early the importance of having a relationship with God & believing in salvation through the shed blood of Jesus as Savior. At an early age, Elizabeth was baptized into Christian discipleship at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, under the leadership of the late Rev. D.S. Bailey. She would often say "I gave the pastor my hand and GOD my heart." Elizabeth always loved music & became a talented musician during her preteen years. Elizabeth was a gifted pianist & played for numerous occasions at several churches throughout the metropolitan, Houston vicinity. Liz 'sweet' heart, a love for others attracted many friends including friend since childhood Alice Goodson. As a people person, Liz participated in the Booker T. Washington Glee Club as a pianist under the direction of the late Jamie Lee, half-time announcer at football games while the Baby Ocean of Soul strutted & glided into formation as Pops Bixby nodded with the upbeat. She won many awards and accolades including the Queen Award for Acting, Senior Year. Liz was a natural born leader: she assisted in organizing a community parade with decorated cars & banners in the heart of North Main Street in Studewood as well as officiating as President of the Mademoiselles-a lady's organization promoting charm, wit, character, morals, & intelligence as they were introduced into society. Deborah joined Elizabeth during her freshman year at the University of Texas. She also met life lifelong friend Tonya Ware in the hallway of Jester Dormitory. Liz continued to play for churches in Austin as she pursued her academic requisites during her college years. She returned home to Houston upon completion of her Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing in 1979.
A whirlwind romance surprised Elizabeth with excitement & love. She met & married Clarence Diggs after being introduced during a choir rehearsal. On May 17, 1980, in a breathtaking ceremony, Cousin Janice Taylor, one of the 16 bridesmaids fainted at the altar during the wedding which was officiated by Rev. Booker at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. As one, the couple moved their membership to Mt. Corinth Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late A. Louis Patterson Jr. Friendships of gold were established with Debra Moore & Cheronne Lewis to the extent that they would all 3 would travel a decade later to Korea & the Demilitarized Zone. Both, Elizabeth & Clarence were active in the Music Ministry, Sunday Church School, Soul Winners Action Team (SWAT) and Vacation Bible School. Joyfully, to this union, they welcomed Christian Diggs in February 1983. During Vacation Bible School, Christian accepted JESUS and was baptized by his dad at Mt. Corinth at 3 years old. Once Clarence was accepted into the Dallas Theological Seminary, the family relocated to Dallas. Diggs Music Studio was formed which taught scores upon scores of students over the years including April King, Destany Epps and the future Rev. Robert Jimmerson. The piano recitals at different venues adorned with fresh flowers on the piano (Dora's) were exquisite, especially the themed cakes. Through Waterford Oaks Elementary, Elizabeth made many, new friends: Flossie Lucky, Johnny Gadson, Zina Martin and later Tammy Gadson and Jermaine Gadson. Her Music Program and Musicals gained major media attention including the Dallas Morning News with the help of friends Kellie Washington, Judy Reaves and so many more. She also won Teacher of the Year at Waterford Oaks Elementary. Uniting with additional choirs and church affiliations enlarged her circle of acquaintances including those from Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship led by Dr. Tony Evans including her close friend Ophelia Greene; The Potter's House led by Bishop T.D. Jakes and finally Trinity Church led by Pastor Jim Hennesy. Liz loved "more" as she cared for the participants of the foster care systems and opened the Liz Diggs Therapeutic Foster Home For Girls in cooperation with Azleway Children's Services a Faith Based Agency. She helped to raise several, several young girls including Mindy, Amy and April whom she loved dearly. Despite of loss, grief, widowhood, and medical issues, Elizabeth persevered in Christ, excelling with overwhelming faith that stars still shine in the darkness. Elizabeth totally depended on the sufficiency of her KING and continued to live Holy and continued preferring others above herself. "GOD put a dream like steel in her soul". For a time, she led a weekly Friday Prayer Shut-Ins at her home and through the years had Prayer Summits and Meetings. She developed a long list of prayer partners including Sharon Hunter. She composed a long list of Prayer Letters which she distributed to a postal mailing list well above 100 recipients. She sang and played skillfully on the piano projecting into the Earth realm her promise of Victory through Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
That Sunday morning, Elizabeth envisioned 'Beams of Light from Heaven' on September 10, 2023. As the angels heeded the voice of their Creator (Psalm 103:20), with angelic escort she adorned herself with a spotless, white Robe Of Righteousness to be brought into the presence of The KING, God The Father and Jesus, His SON, her Savior, to sing and shout in her new body, casting her crown and releasing "the cares all past, home at last, ever to rejoice."
