Elder Bobby
Joe Skinner
May 2, 1943 – January 29, 2024
Bobby Joe Skinner was born May 2, 1943 in Paducah, Cottle County, Texas. He was the oldest of nine siblings born to
the late LB Skinner, Sr. and Laura Lee Kirven. He spent most of his childhood and school years in Terrell, Texas.
He confessed his faith in Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Terrell, Texas.
As An Entrepreneur: Bobby moved to Dallas, Texas and attended American Trade School for Plumbing. In 1970 he
received his Journeyman License. In 1977, Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners of Austin, Texas; he received his
State Board Plumbing License as a Master Plumber. Licenses were renewed annually due to Continuing Professional
Education requirements. He was the founder and owner of S & W Plumbing Company, Dallas, for over 40 years. He
was a devoted plumber for the neighborhood, the community and the entire City of Dallas, Texas.
As A Man of God: Bobby later joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas under the leadership of the late
Reverend Bell. He later joined New Aldersgate United Methodist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Marshall
Hodge. In 1980, he was called into the ministry at New Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He was a great gospel
singer; he sang with a gospel group called The Traveling Souls of Dallas, Texas.
In 1991, he was the Interim Pastor at Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church in Kirvin, Texas. He was later ordained through
the Primitive Baptist Association and was installed as Pastor of the Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church in 1994 until 2020.
In 1995, Elder Skinner organized the Bread of Life Primitive Baptist Church of Bexar Street, Dallas, Texas , until
demographic change and the city reconstruction in 2007. He later united with Greater Macedonia Primitive Baptist
Church under the leadership of Dr. Terrance A. Ford. In 2009, he was installed as the Pastor of Bethlehem Primitive
Baptist Church to present. He was a member of the State Convention: Sinai and Zion Rest District Associations.
In 2015, under the leadership of Elder James Wiley, the President of the Church School and Training Union Congress,
Elder Skinner held a position as the 1st Vice President of the Training Union. He fought a good fight, finished the
course and kept the faith. II Timothy 4:7. As a Devoted Husband and Father: He has three children from a previous marriage: Brian Skinner, Brence Skinner and Bronwen Skinner-Steward. In 1993, he met and married a young lady, Vivian Keaton-Wesley. To this union four
children were born: Mia Andrew; Chequita (Niakia) Coleman; Erick (Shyrica) Wesley and TeAundra (Horace) Jones.
We became a blended family of seven children of love. As A Grandpa: He had 14 grandchildren: Brenel Skinner, Brehia Skinner, Brilliana Steward, Breanna Steward, Bryce Steward, Trinity, Aniyah, Skylar, Eric (Chip) Jr., Indiya, Shauneisha Wesley, An'twan Washington, Miles and Elijah Jones; 4 Great-Grandchildren: Brayden Parks, Nayomi Steward, Brae'Lynn Steward and A.J. Washington.
Preceded Him in Death: Father: LB Skinner, Sr.; 3 brothers, Robert Skinner, Eugene Skinner and LB Skinner, Jr.; and
one sister, Judy Kirven. Survived By: His devoted wife of 30 years, Vivian Skinner; 7 children, 18 grand/great grandchildren, mother, Laura
Lee Skinner-Whitehead, 1 Aunt, Gussie Freeman; 4 sisters, Bobbi Nell (Robert) Brackens, Teri Allen, Vandora (Ernest)
Vincent, Roslyn Kirven; favorite cousins, Florence Armstrong and Marie Johnson; close family friend, Shashon Nash
and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
