Edna Louise Henderson was born to the parentage of Edward Wrighter, Sr. and Amy (Sanders) Wrighter on February 6, 1933, in Chilton, Texas. Edna spent her younger years in Chilton, where she received her formal education and graduated from Frederick Douglas High School.
At the tender age of 17 Edna lost her beloved mother, who was instrumental in organizing one of the first Pentecostal churches in their community. Shortly thereafter Edna accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Saviour and moved -along with her sisters- to Dallas, Texas, where they began attending Pages Temple Church of God in Christ (First Pentecostal COGIC), under the leadership of the late R.M. Jackson. She remained active in this church, under the leadership of Bishop Joseph Jackson, until her declining health prevented her from attending regular services. In 1962 she met and married the love of her life, Ezekiel Henderson. Together they became the parents of five children, Ezekiel (Myron), Eugene (Kelvin), Regina, Kenneth, and Evelyn (Roshonn). They remained married until his death in 2015.
Edna was
known for her love and dedication to the Lord. She was often called on by family and friends and friends of friends to intercede as a prayer warrior. She walked closely with the Lord. She was intuitive, compassionate, and soft spoken to many. But she could also put you in your place with Christian authority, if you got out of line! Edna lived her life serving God and trusting Him for everything. Her faith in God remained strong, right up to the time of her passing, when our Father in heaven called her home. We celebrate her long and fruitful life.
Edna was
preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Ezekiel Myron and Kenneth; six brothers and two sisters.
She leaves to mourn, three children, Eugene (Kelvin), Regina Neal, and Evelyn Lawson (Todd); Four grandchildren, Joseph (Matthew) Neal, Kelsey Lawson, Kalani Lawson, and Azul Henderson; One Sister, Amy Lee Chambers; one sister-in-law, Earline Winbush; one brother-in-law, Buford Taylor; a lifelong friend, Rosetta Haynes and a host of other very special relatives and friends. She will be dearly missed.
