Obituary

Edith Lorine Williams, 96, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2017 after a full and vibrant life that touched so many family and friends. Edith was born on September 16, 1920 in Dallas, Texas to the parentage of Shirley Moore and Vassal Cook. Edith was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Williams and her sister, Marguerite S. Foster. Edith received Christ as her Savior and was baptized at an early age. She was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church for many years. Edith received her Bachelor's Degree from Bishop College; her Master's from Texas Woman's University and dedicated over three decades in education until she retired as a classroom teacher.

Edith was a delightful wife, sister, aunt, educator, friend and member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She was wonderful, kind and considerate, and always offered words of wisdom to those who sought her counsel. She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories: her nieces, nephews, family and many long-time friends. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to: The African American Museum, 2536 Grand Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75210 and to St. John's Lutheran Church, 2939 Sunnyvale Street, Dallas, Texas 75216.

The family would like to thank the caring staff at Millbrook Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center for their kindness, care and support for Edith. There will be a viewing at Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home on Monday, June 26, 2017 from 3-9pm, 6449 University Hills Boulevard, Dallas, Texas 75241. At the request of Edith, there will be no funeral service. Her wish was to be buried with her devoted husband, James.
