Obituary

Easter Clemmiestine Holt was born on April 24, 1943, in Kilgore, Texas to the parentage of the late Clara Ann Williams Holt and Harvey Holt Sr. She made her departure from earth to heaven peacefully on July 8, 2023, in Dallas, Texas. She was tenderly rendered care by her sons, daughter in love and the staff at the Oxford Glen until her transition.

Easter attended and graduated from North Chapel High School in Kilgore, Texas. After graduation she pursued an education at Bishop College, receiving a Bachelor of Science in 1967. She then attended Texas Women's University where she received her Master of Education in 1974.

Easter fell in love with and married the late Franklin Delano Slaughter on the 28th day of March in the year of 1964, in Kilgore, Texas. To this union of 58 years, two sons were born, Franklin Duane and Derek Wayne. She was a loving mother, sister, mother-in-love, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. She was also loved by many in the community and Dallas Independent School District (D.I.S.D.).

Easter started her career in D.I.S.D. as a classroom teacher and then furthered her career as an educational diagnostician. Easter retired from the district after serving 40+ years. After moving back to Kilgore in 2002, she acquired a position with Longview I.S.D. as a substitute teacher and retired in 2014.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clara and Harvey Holt Sr., sister Karran Holt, Ruby Scott, brother Sterling Holt Sr. and her dear husband Franklin Delano.

Easter leaves to cherish and honor her memories: her sons, Franklin Duane Slaughter (Debra), and Derek Wayne Slaughter; Grandson, Franklin Duane Slaughter, Jr. (Craniesia); Great Grandsons, Franklin Duane Slaughter, III and Fredderick Deon Slaughter; brothers, Sonny Holt (Beverly) and Harvey R. Holt Jr.; sister in law, Patricia Holt; Special nieces, Ruth Cranford (Alexander), Renee Scott, and CaSaundra Holt-Henderson (Travarious); nieces and nephew and a host of other family and friends.
