"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
Obituary
Dorothy Anderson was born on October 28, 1933, in Garrison, Texas to Addie and Rosie Thompson. She married Richard Ayers, and to this union five children were born.
Dorothy accepted the Lord as her personal savior at a young age. She was a faithful member of Greater Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor L. K. Combs.
On October 29, 1977, Edwin Anderson married Dorothy, who he fondly referred to as his Queen. They served the Lord together at Greater Mt. Hermon before transitioning to Precept and Example Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Andrew Lane. In 1997, upon Pastor Lane's passing, Edwin and Dorothy Anderson became the Pastor and First Lady of Precept and Example Missionary Baptist Church. For many years, she diligently served as an organist, songstress, deaconess, and member of the women's ministry.
Dorothy was educated within the Garrison School System, and she later acquired her high school diploma in Dallas, Texas. She attended El Centro College where she took courses pertaining to childhood development and education. Shortly afterwards, she became a licensed childcare provider when she opened Dorothy's Tender Loving Care.
One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family including her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and adoptive family members. She was known as the beloved matriarch and "rock" of her family. Having never met a stranger, she had a loving and generous spirit. For everyone who walked through the door of her home, she became their granny.
She entered into eternal rest on March 11, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings (L.C. Richardson, Addie B. Shepherd, Ernie Mae Henderson, Catherine Harris, Bertie Mae Davis, Queen Ester Hartsfield, Roosevelt Thompson), and two grandchildren (Rickey Daniels and Bernard Ayers).
She leaves to cherish her life and memories: her beloved husband, Edwin Anderson; three daughters, Frances Jean Erving (Fredrick Erving, husband), Carolyn Ayers Cornelius (Willie Cornelius, husband), and Mae Lois Ayers; two sons, Richard Earl Ayers and James Earl Ayers; one sister, Alvary Bryant; ten grandchildren (Kelvin Ayers, Scherrie Ayers, and Christy Erving; Howard, Dietrich, and Gary Daniels; Arthur LaDale and Angela Ayers; Richard and Prentice Figures); thirty-seven great grandchildren, and a host of great-great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
