Doris (Ransom) Jarvis Life Story
Doris Ransom Jarvis entered this world on November 30, 1949 to the parentage of James Edward Ransom and Daisy Lee (Harris) Ransom in Freestone County, Texas (both parents predeceased). She was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, James E. Jarvis, on Friday, May 29, 2020 at 9:52pm.
Doris accepted Christ at an early age as a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She received her formative education at Dogan School in Freestone County. Doris fondly shared memories of her time at Dogan and was an active member of the Dogan High Alumni Association. Her giving nature and love of family and friends was a result of her mothers' influence. Upon the death of Doris' father, her mother was suddenly faced with raising a family as a single parent. While a child herself, Doris took on the supporting role of caregiver to younger siblings who mispronounced the word "sister". Thus earning Doris the unshakable nickname of "Susta". Doris was a devoted daughter and the perfect sister. She loved music and never passed up a chance to dance. She had a God given sense of humor and ability to laugh freely with the spirit of a child.
In 1968, Doris moved to Dallas, Texas, where she studied electronics and went on to start her career with Texas Instrument (TI). Where she became an accomplished and valued member of Texas Instrument's Technology and Defense divisions. Doris remained humble while building her career. Never one to take God's blessings for granted. This explained her strong work ethics, which led to multiple rewards and special recognition throughout her 40-year career until her retirement 2004.
In 1969, Doris met Willie Anderson and later took his hand in marriage in June 1970 – August 1983. They were blessed with three children – Tracy, Tina and Tamara.
Doris decided early as a mother that she and her daughters would serve the Lord. As a founding member of United Missionary Baptist Church (Dallas, TX) in 1979, she found a permanent church home. Where she actively served for 40 years. It was here she met and fell in love with, James E. Jarvis (aka Mr. Jarvis). He asked for her hand in marriage and they were wed on December 20 th of 1986.
Her spiritual calling was to serve the Lord and to grow in her understanding of the Word of God. And boy did she serve… She served on the Board of Trustee; she served as a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent; she served on the Usher Board; she served as the Youth Department Director; she served on the Hospitality /Benevolence Committee, she praised the Lord and sung as a member of the Sanctuary Choir. One of her greatest feats was starting the Jarvis-Warner Foundation in 2002 that awarded graduating high school seniors scholarships to further their education. Doris had an infectious spirit and was loved by her church family and because of this she was affectionately known as, Sis. J. In 2004, Sis. J accepted her call to Evangelism and was licensed by her pastor, Rev. W. L. Mitchell as an Evangelist.
Doris constantly read her Bible and Christian literature and called on the Lord as she fed her appetite for understanding the Word. She enrolled in Southern Bible Institute (SBI) and earned her Associates in Theology in May of 1994. After retiring from Texas Instruments, she continued her studies at SBI and went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Theology in May of 2009. She remained a faithful servant to the end.
Throughout her life, she maintained her devotion to family and faith, her wonderful sense of humor, love of learning, zest for life and unique sense of style. Doris will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She was predeceased by cherished husband, James Edward Jarvis. Doris and Jarvis shared a love of God, family, and travel together until God called him home in October of 2001.
