Reflections of Life
In 1947, W. T. Nixon and Lizzie Nixon eagerly anticipated the arrival of their child on March 16, their joy knew no bounds as they welcomed a lively baby girl into the world naming her Dora Lee Nixon.
Dora worshipped at Antioch Church of Christ alongside her parents. At the age of 12, she embraced her faith and was baptized, marking a significant milestone in her spiritual journey.
She spent her childhood in Midway, Texas, attending A.V. Lee School before graduating from Marian Anderson High School in Madisonville, Texas.
Upon completing high school, she pursued her education at Southwestern Christian College, earning her associate degree in arts. It was during her time there that she met Richard Burnett Sr, the love of her life, and the two were joined in holy matrimony.
The young couple made a new home in Dallas, embarking on their life journey together. Over the years, their family grew to include three children: Kimberly, Richard Jr., and Kendra. The family was active in their faith, attending Cedar Crest Church of Christ initially and later, at the time of her passing, Dora was a member of Hutchins Church of Christ under the leadership of Brother Carl Sherman.
Dora initially started her career at Blue Cross Blue Shield, but her true passion revealed itself when she became an educator in Wilmer-Hutchins Independent School District and later Dallas Independent School District. It was in this role that she found her fulfillment. After dedicating years to shaping young minds, she eventually retired, leaving behind a legacy of education and inspiration.
She was preceded in death by her parents W.T. and Lizzie Nixon, siblings, Louise, George, Kermit, Lee Chester, Emmitt, Mae Opal, Maceal, Melvin, and Elmira.
Her memories will be forever cherished by her children: Kimberly Burnett and Kendra Burnett (Corey) of Dallas, Richard Burnett Jr. (Stephanie) of Winnsboro, Louisiana.
