Obituary

Don "Kup" Carter, Sr., a devoted servant of God and a pillar of his community, passed away on January 29, 2025. Born on February 3, 1959, Don lived a life dedicated to uplifting others, leaving an enduring legacy of love and compassion. He was a faithful member of Canaan Baptist Church.

He was the epitome of a servant leader, embodying a spirit that touched the hearts of so many. As a father, husband, brother, uncle, coach, mentor, and dedicated member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., he left an indelible mark on every life he encountered.

He had an incredible gift for reaching out to those in need and ensuring that children who faced hardships were always supported. Through his efforts, he provided food, clothing, and opportunities for countless young athletes, believing in their potential even when they couldn't see it in themselves.

In his professional life, Don excelled at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Parole Division for 30 years. After retiring as assistant regional supervisor, he continued to make a difference in the community as a substitute teacher and later a teacher's assistant within Dallas ISD. He dedicated his time to coaching little league teams and guiding sixth-grade boys, leaving a legacy of encouragement and inspiration. He was a dedicated servant to the Top Guns Basketball Team.

A proud alumnus of  W. H. Adamson High School's graduating class of 1977, Don leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Cocrecia Carter, and his four children: Dondre Carter, Don Carter, Jr., Chris Mincey (Makeisha), and Dr. Sabrina Hodge. He was the cherished grandfather of 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Don is reunited in eternal peace with his parents, Norfleet Asbury Carter and Willie Sina Carter, and his siblings: Alfred James, Jr., Marcia Gail James, Francis Asbury Carter, Sr., Ava Kay Carter, and Donald Louis Carter, Sr. He leaves two sisters to cherish his memory, Betty Tanner and Wanda Williams, along with a multitude of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
