ECHOES OF A LIFE WELL LIVED

First Lady Demetria Johnson

Grace was in her steps, Heaven in her eyes, in every gesture Dignity and Love. On March 13, 2022, God sent His angels to escort First Lady Demetria Johnson home to her eternal rest.

SHE WAS BORN

Demetria Johnson was born on October 18, 1960, in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Lewis and Callie Taliaferro. She was the seventh of eight children and was the youngest girl. Demetria was a QUEEN full of love and compassion who touched countless hearts and lives far beyond her reach. She was truly a VIRTUOUS WOMAN.

SHE WAS LOVED

Demetria was united in marriage to Pastor Eugene Johnson Jr. on April 4, 1987. From this union, they were blessed with three children, Tiffany, Brittany, and Jamal. She was a devoted mother who loved her children dearly.  With her unconditional love, she taught the power of Christian authority through prayer, fasting, and praise and worship... A LOVE THAT WILL LIVE ON WITHIN OUR HEARTS FOREVER.

SHE LIVED

She navigated through the Shelby County School District, graduating from Kingsbury High School in 1978. While attending Kingsbury High School, she was a member of the ROTC and track team. Later, she attended Lemoyne-Owen College, an HBCU. She majored in accounting and successfully graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1983.

SHE SERVED

Demetria was a devoted employee with Texas Workforce for over 34 years. Through her diligence and dedication, Demetria matriculated from an entry-level position to a managerial role which she held for over 10 years. In addition to being a devoted worker, she exemplified the life of a faithful servant of Christ. Demetria accepted Christ at an early age at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church-Hyde Park in Memphis, Tennessee. In 2005, Demetria became a 1 st lady. As the First Lady of Marvellous Light Community Church, she labored continuously by serving in the Sunday School, My Sister's Keeper Ministry, Secrets to Love Marriage Ministry, Culinary Ministry, and providing mentorship to the Youth Enjoying Salvation Ministry. Demetria fulfilled her true purpose of being a part of the outreach ministry where she never missed an opportunity to be a friend and confidant to all who needed love and a listening ear.

SHE EMBRACED

Demetria was a person who truly lived for her family. She instilled love, happiness, integrity, gratitude, and taught them to esteem others greater than themselves. She was lovingly known as "Meecy" by her Taliaferro family. Her favorite pastimes were reading, outreach, family gatherings, traveling, shopping, and Johnson family dinners that took place every Sunday. Demetria was known for her mentorship, sweet spirit, discernment, and words of wisdom, whether you asked for it or not. With the announcement of her first grandchild, Demetria couldn't hide her excitement. Demetria's love for Baby Leroy Isaiah Jones II will be shared unconditionally.

WE MOURN

On March 13, 2022, Demetria entered her eternal home in glory. She was welcomed by her parents, Lewis and Callie Taliaferro; sister, Linda Todd.

She leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Pastor Eugene Johnson Jr. of Desoto, Texas daughters, Tiffany Johnson , Brittany Jones (Isaiah) , son, Jamal Johnson all of Dallas, Texas and grandson, Leroy Isaiah Jones II; three sisters, Alene Johnson , of St. Paul Minnesota; Betty Jackson and Martha Taliaferro of Memphis, Tennessee; three brothers, Lawrence Taliaferro , Alfred Taliaferro (Robbie) , and Patrick Taliaferro (Queen) all of Memphis, Tennessee; the members of Marvellous Light Community Church and a host of other relatives, extended family,  and friends.
