Obituary

Darus Milton Henderson, Jr., affectionately known as "Lil Bro" and "Blue", was born on May 15, 1957 in Dallas, Texas to Darus and Mildred Henderson, Sr. He is the eldest son, and second born child of four children. As a young boy, he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior while attending Golden Gate Baptist Church. He began early learning to work with his hands, and picking up various skills, and as a teenager was an apprentice at the Dallas Morning News. Darus completed his formal education in 1975 as a graduate of Franklin D. Roosevelt High School in Dallas, Texas. After high school, he enlisted into the United States Army, and served from 1975 to 1978, and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. After completing his service to his country, Darus went on to obtain his certification as an electrician, working for Earl Thornton Electric Company, for many years. As a "jack of all trades", you could find him hanging ceiling fans, installing hot water heaters, or fixing toilets and washing machines for his family and friends, and mostly likely whistling while he worked. Many can attest to the amount of money he saved them over the years. This led to him ending his working career as a bus driver, custodian, and handyman at Greater Emmanuel Baptist Church. A lover of music, in all forms, Darus lent his voice to the church choir, enjoyed playing the harmonica, and was teaching himself to play the guitar.

As an adult, Darus united with the Greater Emmanuel Baptist Church, where he met the love of his life, Donna Lewis. They were united in Holy Matrimony on February 2, 2002. From this union, Darus inherited two daughters, Monica Parish (Donald) and Katrina Lewis-Moorehead (Patrick). He was also afforded the opportunity to play, one of his most cherished roles, as grandfather to Devin, Dawn, and Dominique. Darus continued to spend his final days doing the things he loved, which included watching Westerns, sitting still to listen to the rain, and walking his fur grandbabies, Zora and Jax.

Darus is preceded in death by his, grandparents, Less and Sapora Griffin, and Irving and Rodella Henderson, Sr., and his parents, Darus and Mildred Henderson, Sr.

Darus will be lovingly remembered by his immediate family, and his sisters, Melondia Bibbins (Larry), Marcia Carraway (Sammy), his brother, Carlos Henderson (Enrique), mother-in-law, Doris Lewis, brothers-in-law, David Lewis, Ronald Lewis (Princess), and Brian Lewis (Kendra), his sister-in-law, Barbara Patterson, special family friend, Wanda Fripp, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
