Ms. Darlene Kinmon Gentry "Peggie" was born in Trinity, Texas as a twin on October 24, 1941. Darlene's twin "Peggie" died at birth, but her deceased twin was never forgotten because "Peggie" became Darlene's nickname. Darlene's father was Lucius Kelley, and her mother was Alice Kinmon, along with her stepfather Simon Kinmon.
Darlene is the middle child of seven siblings on her mother's side: JD(Leroy), Ernestine, Amie, Helen Jean, Lee Artist, and Lucille. Darlene has Three half - brothers and two half-sisters on her father's side: Cottrell Marshall, Harold Kelley, W.H. Kelley, Janice Kelley Moten, and Diane Kelley Murray.
Darlene received her education in Crockett, Texas then she relocated to Dallas, Texas as a teenager. She worked as a waitress, and that is where she met Melvin Gentry Jr., From this union, four children were born, Brigitte, Phyllis, Darryl, and Melva.
Darlene was 25 years old when she had her first major stroke. She was paralyzed on the right side of her body, and her youngest child was only three months old. Darlene had to learn how to talk and walk again. She was permanently disabled, but she managed to raise her four children with her faith and strength in God.
Darlene accepted Christ at a young age. She became a member of New Birth Baptist Church, with Dr. George W. Pryor as the Pastor. She served faithfully as an Usher and as a Singer in the choir. Also, Darlene motivated and guided her children to sing in the choir. Darlene also worshipped at Third Ave Baptist Church with Michael Pryor as Pastor.
Those left behind to cherish her wonderful memories: Four children, Brigitte (Bruton Stephens) of Sachse, Tx, Phyllis Kinmon of Dallas Tx, Darryl Kinmon of Dallas Tx, and Melva Smith Gentry of Dallas Tx. Siblings: Amie Kinmon of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Helen Jean Kinmon of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Lee Artist of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Other siblings: Cottrell Marshall of Houston Tx, Harold Kelley of Crockett Tx, W.H. Kelley of Houston Tx, Janice Kelley Moten of Crockett Tx, and Diane Murray of Houston Tx., 7 Grandchildren, 11 Greatgrandchildren. Along with a host of nieces, other relatives, and Friends.
