The Life of Lee Alcorn

Doris Lee Alcorn was born on July 23, 1937, in the Ledbetter community of Rockdale, Texas. The eldest of four children, Lee was lovingly raised alongside his three sisters. At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, beginning a lifelong journey of faith and service.

Lee excelled academically and graduated with honors from Aycock High School in 1956. Determined to build a brighter future, he courageously hitchhiked to Dallas with only a backpack and ten cents in his pocket to enlist in the United States Air Force. His commitment to education later led him to earn a bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology from the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston, Texas. He continued his studies, earning an Associate of Arts and Sciences degree from Mountain View Community College and pursuing additional coursework at the University of Texas Health Science Center.

In 1961, Lee married Eunice Oliver. In 1965 he began his career with the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Dallas where he faithfully served for 30 years before retiring in 1995. In 1982, he married Rhonda Menefee and together they blended a loving family of 5 children, Jason, Jerrold, Jennifer, Lisa, and Jillian. Lee and Rhonda shared 44 wonderful years of marriage until he was called home to be with the Lord.

Following his retirement, Lee devoted the remainder of his life to public service through civic engagement and political involvement. A passionate advocate for civil rights and social justice, he gave countless hours to championing the rights of others, addressing the concerns of the underserved, and strengthening his community.

On January 19, 2025, Lee united with New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church, where he continued to grow in faith, fellowship, and Christian service. Although Lee achieved much throughout his lifetime, his greatest legacy was not found in his accomplishments, but in the love he freely gave to those blessed to call him family.

As a husband, Lee stood faithfully beside his wife. He was a strong provider whose strength, devotion, and unwavering commitment remained evident throughout their life together. Through life’s joys and challenges, he offered encouragement, laughter, firmness, and a steady presence that made their home a place of comfort, security, and love. As a father, Lee led by example. He taught his children the importance of hard work, integrity, responsibility, and perseverance. He celebrated their accomplishments, supported them during difficult seasons, and loved them unconditionally. His guidance, wisdom, and example will continue to shape their lives for generations to come.

Becoming a grandfather brought Lee tremendous joy. He treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren, delighting in their laughter, celebrating their milestones, and creating memories they will forever carry in their hearts. Whether sharing stories, offering advice, or simply enjoying their company, Lee made each grandchild feel deeply loved and valued. In his later years, he often listened more than he spoke, but when he did speak, his words carried wisdom, purpose, and love.

Lee was also a cherished uncle who took a genuine interest in the lives of his nieces and nephews. He readily offered guidance, encouragement, and a listening ear whenever needed. His warmth, generosity, and sense of humor made family gatherings brighter and strengthened the bonds connecting each generation. He was affectionately known as “Uncle Doris,” the one everyone could call upon for a wise word, honest counsel, or heartfelt encouragement. To his friends, Lee was loyal, dependable, and sincere. He was the kind of man who could always be counted upon for a helping hand, sound advice, or a conversation that left others smiling. He built lasting friendships through his honesty, compassion, and genuine concern for others, leaving a meaningful impression upon everyone he encountered. Lee’s life was defined by his faith, the relationships he nurtured, the causes he championed, and the love he shared so generously.

Lee was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Jeff Alcorn and Earline Benford, and his cherished sisters, Ann McDade, Johnny Ruth Alcorn-Brooks, and Cecil “Tiny” Clark. He leaves to cherish his life, love, and extraordinary legacy his devoted wife, Rhonda; his children, Jason Alcorn (Shronda), Jerrold Alcorn (Jessica), Jennifer Wheeler (Curtis), Lisa Menefee, and Jillian Davis (Ron); twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces and nephews. Each of them carries a special part of Lee’s legacy—a legacy of faith, family, courage, service, and an unwavering commitment to making life better for those who would come after him. Though his presence will be deeply missed, his example of faithfulness, strength, service, and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.
